Packers -3 - And so the Kevin Kolb era begins. We know the Aaron Rodgers era is well underway.
He’s getting better and better, scary since he already rates among the best
quarterbacks. He and the Packers’ first-string offense already were in mid-season
form during preseason. The Eagles’ defense took a step back last year. Their feared
blitz package became inconsistent following the death of long-time defensive coordinator
Jim Johnson during training camp last year. The Eagles gave up 27 touchdown
passes while finishing 19th in scoring defense. In their last 10 games, the
Eagles surrendered 20 or more points eight times. Rodgers has a bevy of weapons
to take advantage, including emerging tight end Jermichael Finley, a matchup
nightmare for Philly which no longer has long-time Pro Bowl safety Brian
Dawkins. Green Bay’s offensive line is healthy and intact. The Eagles lost a lot of
leadership with Dawkins, Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook gone. McNabb
had been the face of the franchise for the previous 11 years. Philly’s offense has
potential, but Kolb is going to make mistakes being a young quarterback facing a
veteran defense – one that features the NFC’s best cornerback, Charles Woodson.
The Packers went 7-1 SU, 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight regular-season games. The
Eagles were 0-5 SU and ATS last year versus playoff teams. There’s a gap between
these two teams not reflected in the point spread.
