Fabian Zetterlund Ottawa Senators NHL
Photo By - Imagn Images. Ottawa Senators left wing Fabian Zetterlund (20) looks on during warm-up.

Fabian Zetterlund is very good at generating shot volume and should see an uptick in usage without Shane Pinto in the lineup.

My Devils vs. Senators predictions see Zetterlund taking full advantage of the extra opportunity against the team that first traded him.

Let’s dive deeper into my NHL picks for Tuesday, December 9.

Devils vs Senators prediction

Devils vs Senators Best bet: Fabian Zetterlund Over 1.5 shots (-135)

Fabian Zetterlund is a shoot-first player who sits third on the Ottawa Senators in 5-on-5 scoring chances despite ranking 8th in time on ice.

He is generally very efficient with his ice time and that shows in the numbers. Zetterlund has recorded multiple shots in 59% of his games when seeing 14+ minutes and 64% when playing 15 minutes or more.

That is especially relevant with Shane Pinto out of the lineup. He’s one of just two Senators with more chances than Zetterlund at 5-on-5 and is leading the team in goal scoring.

Ottawa needs others to step up offensively and it appears Zetterlund will get plenty of opportunities to do just that.

Zetterlund played more than 18 minutes in the first game without Pinto and took full advantage, recording six shots on eight attempts.

He is skating alongside Tim Stutzle in the Top-6, giving him a strong floor and ceiling in terms of usage.

The matchup is good as well. The New Jersey Devils have allowed the fifth most shots to wingers over the last 10 games and are struggling without their best defender in Brett Pesce.

Not to mention, Zetterlund is going up against the team that first traded him. He’s recorded multiple shots in four of five meetings since the trade.

Devils vs Senators same-game parlay

Stutzle recorded 50+ assists each of the past three years and is the best playmaker on the Senators. He is likely to have a hand in the majority of the shots Zetterlund takes in this game.

Stutzle also has exposure to Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson, and the best players in Ottawa’s lineup on the man advantage.

Arseny Gritsyuk is averaging 2.9 shots on goal and has cleared in seven of eight games without both Jack Hughes and Evgenii Dadonov in the lineup.

Devils vs Senators SGP

  • Fabian Zetterlund Over 1.5 shots
  • Tim Stutzle Over 0.5 assists
  • Arseny Gritsyuk Over 1.5 shots
