Mitch Marner is a massive favorite after scoring a natural hat trick during the Golden Knights' double-OT Game 3 win over the Hurricanes.

The Conn Smythe may belong to Mitch Marner regardless of how the Stanley Cup wraps.

He's certainly the obvious choice if the Vegas Golden Knights wind up beating the Carolina Hurricanes, but it may not matter either way.

Marner scored three goals and added a helper in a wacky double-overtime victory in Game 3, and the Conn Smythe odds now have him as a massive -220 favorite.

Let's take a look at the latest NHL odds.

Conn Smythe Trophy odds analysis

Obviously, nothing is written in stone until the job is done, but Mitch Marner looks inevitable. He scored his second hat trick of the playoffs in the Vegas Golden Knights' Game 3 win, and his 28 points are eight more than Jack Eichel, who is second in the postseason.

Another shaky outing from Frederik Andersen has rendered his chances at claiming the Conn Smythe unlikely, unless he strings together some miraculous performances down the stretch.

Conn Smythe Trophy prediction

Bet Odds Bet Date Units
Golden Knights Brett Howden +1300 June 5 1.0

Call this a price play, but I can't help but jump on Brett Howden at +1300. He leads the playoffs in goals with 13 (three more than the next closest player), and his ability to win faceoffs puts him in plenty of big opportunities.

His numbers aren't that far off from Sam Bennett's when he won (15 goals, seven assists), and his strong play has carried into the Cup Final.

Does Marner have more points? Yes, but the Conn Smythe is the MVP of the postseason, not the Art Ross of it. I would bet on anything longer than +1000 heading into Game 3.

Pick made on Friday, 6-5.

Understanding Conn Smythe Trophy odds

Sportsbooks will post Conn Smythe Trophy odds as early as the beginning of the playoffs. These NHL futures are constantly adjusted throughout the postseason depending on how well players perform as well as their team success. Sportsbooks will also adjust the NHL awards odds based on handle and liability to certain players.

Conn Smythe Trophy odds will usually look like this:

  • Nathan MacKinnon +290

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $290 if MacKinnon takes home the Conn Smythe Trophy. If it's close to the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs and a player has stood out as the obvious MVP of the series they might have a minus sign (-) ahead of their odds like this:

  • Connor McDavid -175

This means that if you bet on McDavid to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, you would have needed to bet $175 to profit $100.
