Lane Hutson has piled up the assists since becoming a full-time NHLer, recording 77 through 109 games with the Montreal Canadiens.

Given the immense struggles of starting goaltending, St. Louis Blues netminder Jordan Binnington, my Blues vs. Canadiens predictions like Hutson’s chances of picking up a helper Sunday night.

Let’s break down my NHL picks for Saturday, December 7.

Blues vs Canadiens prediction

Blues vs Canadiens Best bet: Lane Hutson Over 0.5 assists (-130)

Lane Hutson hasn’t picked up a helper in two straight games, which is an eternity for him. Only twice since the end of last January has Hutson gone more than two in a row without an assist — and both stretches were last season.

He's been a model of consistency, and this is not a spot where the trend should be bucked.

The St. Louis Blues have allowed 3.41 goals per game this season, ranking them 25th in the NHL. They've also won only five times through 14 road games.

Keeping the puck out is a problem for them, especially with Jordan Binnington between the pipes. He's sporting an .874 SV% through 19 games, and he has conceded 7.6 more goals than expected based on his workload.

Linus Ullmark (-10.3) is the only other netminder who has given up more than 6.2 goals above expectation. Binnington has really struggled, to put it lightly.

The Blues have also allowed power-play goals at the seventh-highest rate. That should serve Hutson well as he’s tied for eighth among all defensemen in power-play points since the beginning of last season.

Blues vs Canadiens same-game parlay

Nick Suzuki is known more for his playmaking prowess, but he can put the puck in the net. He’s been quietly efficient in Montreal, scoring in 40% of his home games last season and 36% through the first few months this year.

Binnington has won only six of 18 decisions this season, and the Blues have struggled to get results on the road. Look for the Montreal Canadiens’ big guns to lead them to a win in this spot.
