Week 8 NFL Teaser: Beating up on Bottom Feeders

As we enter Week 8 of the NFL season, teams are either good or bad. There's no in between. Our NFL betting picks focus on taking the cream of the crop and teasing them down to a much more managable spread against the NFL's doormats.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s teaser time!

We got back into the winner’s circle last week to bring the season’s record to 4-3, and there’s a lot of great options on the NFL odds board to pair up this week that could get us to 5-3.

Specifically, we have five different NFL Week 8 favorites in the six to 8.5-point range that we can tease down to get inside the key number of three. This is rare territory, but we need to be ultra careful with NFL picks in these spots. There’s very few things worse in sports betting than teasing that favorite down, only to watch them lose outright – hello Eagles in Week 6… and Ravens in Week 3.

I’ll be pairing two of these favorites in my Week 8 teaser, so let’s hope they don’t play down to the competition, and I can avoid getting burned in my NFL Week 8 predictions.  Let’s go!

Week 8 Teaser

Chiefs (-7 to -1) vs Broncos

There’s no need to get fancy or overthink things with this selection. These teams just played each other two weeks ago and the game wasn’t as close as the 19-8 score might indicate. Kansas City had 192 more yards but went just one of five on red zone touchdown conversions. The fact that they let the Broncos hang around a little bit in that game should give them a little bit of motivation to not take them lightly.

They have big edges on both sides of the ball. Defensively, their pass rush has been excellent as they rank second in the NFL in pressure percentage. I fully expect them to limit Russell Wilson once again. In their Week 6 matchup, Wilson was sacked four times and threw for just 95 yards on 22 attempts.

This is also a matchup between a Chiefs offense that ranks third in yards per play while the Broncos defense is dead last in yards per play allowed. Denver’s defense is generating the second-lowest pressure percentage, so Patrick Mahomes will have plenty of time to cook.

And, oh yeah, Kansas City has 14 straight wins against the Broncos.

Lions (-8 to -2) vs Raiders

What a beautiful spot for the Detroit Lions.

They’re a good team that’s desperate to bounce back in a big way after getting humiliated by the Ravens last week. Enter the disgrace that is the Las Vegas Raiders who are coming off a loss to a man named Tyson Bagent and the Chicago Bears.

The last time the Lions defense got stomped like they did by the Ravens was in Week 2 vs Seattle. They bounced back nicely the next week, allowing just six points and 183 total yards to the Falcons. Don’t be shocked to see a similar performance vs a Las Vegas team that’s ranked 30th in scoring and 25th in yards per play.

The game also sets up nicely for the Lions offense. Jared Goff has been much better at home this season (113.3 QB rating in Detroit vs 88 on the road). The Raiders rank 30th in QB pressure percentage and 25th in opponent completion percentage, so Goff will have an excellent opportunity to pick them apart on Monday night!

Best Week 8 teaser spots

  • Chiefs (-7 to -1)
  • Lions (-8 to -2)
  • Rams vs Cowboys (+6 to +12)
  • Eagles vs Commanders (-6.5 to -0.5)
  • Giants vs Jets (+3 to +9)

Who the hell are the Dallas Cowboys to be favored by six points vs an above-average team like the Los Angeles Rams? Ok, that’s a bit strong but Dallas has only beaten up on bottom feeders this season (while also losing to one in the Cardinals), while the Rams have been competitive in all of their losses, so these 12 points are an excellent cushion for them. Los Angeles also ranks higher in net yards per play despite playing a more difficult schedule.

The Washington Commanders have been competitive vs. the Philadelphia Eagles lately, even taking them to overtime in Week 4, but I think that game was a wake-up call for Philly’s defense as they’ve been razor-sharp since. The Commanders have allowed a league-high 40 sacks while allowing the fifth most pressure. The Eagles have the third most sacks and should make Sam Howell uncomfortable all game long. Expect the Eagles to run early and often and play keep away vs this Commanders' defense that ranks 23rd in yards per rush attempt allowed.

Are the New York Giants finally turning things around after one of the worst starts to a season in recent memory? They might be, on defense, at least. They’ve allowed just 21 points in their last two games and should be able to limit a New York Jets offense that’s scored just seven touchdowns in six games. This game has a rock-bottom total of 36.5, so either side pulling away by multiple scores isn’t likely. In their last two games after a bye, the Jets scored three and 13 points.
