It will be a homecoming of sorts when new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll and new QB Geno Smith head back to Seattle to face the Seahawks in a preseason contest on Thursday night.

Line movement is always important, especially when it comes to betting on preseason football.
NFL preseason line movements are a direct reflection of news we have learned and things we unequivocally know about who will play in the game and the approach they’ll take. That rarely happens in the regular season, and that’s what makes preseason betting unique — along with being potentially profitable.
When Las Vegas Raiders coach (and former Seattle Seahawks head man) Pete Carroll declared boldly that “everybody’s live and everybody’s ready to go,” suggesting that many starters, including QB Geno Smith, may play Thursday, we saw a textbook example of this information-based line movement in action.
We saw the Raiders go from a slight underdog to soaring through the key number of 3, and they are now a 4.5-point favorite.
It’s still not enough.
Even if QB Geno Smith plays only two series, there’s a sizable advantage for the Raiders in the matchup. And even if it’s a preseason game, they have the unique advantage of being extra motivated for this one, with a former head coach and starting QB returning to Seattle.
This game will feature multiple instances of Las Vegas' first string going against the opponent’s second string, and second stringers going against the third and fourth-stringers. Sometimes it’s as simple as that, and I’d play this to 6.5 because of that massive advantage.
