The Green Bay Packers enter Week 16 battered and bruised, which is why taking the points with Chicago now is the smart move.

The balance of power in the NFC North is teetering heading into Saturday’s showcase between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears in Week 16.

Chicago sits atop the division and can put distance between itself and Green Bay, which limps into the short week with major injuries on both sides of the ball.

My early Packers vs. Bears predictions and NFL picks have faith in Chicago covering the spread on December 20.

Early Packers vs Bears spread pick: Bears +1.5

-110 at FanDuel

The Chicago Bears opened as 2.5-point home underdogs, and it wouldn’t surprise to see this spread close near a pick’em considering the adversity stacking up for the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay’s loss at Denver in Week 15 came with an extra cost. It lost star pass rusher Micah Parsons to a torn ACL, WR1 Christian Watson left the game with a rib injury, and TE Josh Whyle, OT Zach Tom, and safety Evan Williams all exited with ailments.

The Saturday schedule not only makes for a short window to get healthy, but also puts Green Bay on the road for a second straight contest.

If you like Chicago, bet it sooner rather than later. The Bears' offense can trade shots with any team in the league, and this defense is very dangerous, leading the league in takeaways.

Green Bay’s pass rush will miss Parsons terribly and run into a Chicago offensive line that just battled Cleveland sack master Myles Garrett. The Bears sit among the Top 5 in most offensive line measurements.

The Cheeseheads knocked off Chicago 28-21 in Lambeau two weeks ago, needing a late score to pull away and push with the closing spread of a touchdown.

Early Packers vs Bears total pick: Over 46.5

-112 at FanDuel

This total opened as low as 45.5 points and jumped to 46.5 with action on the Over, sitting just shy of the key stop of 47 O/U. The Week 14 number closed at 44 points, with the final score going Over that bar.

As mentioned, the Bears' offense can pile up the points and faces a much different defense with Parsons out of the picture. If the Packers’ pass pressure is dulled, Chicago QB Caleb Williams will have more time for deeper strikes to develop.

Green Bay has been good at protecting against explosive plays, but now this soft secondary is exposed.

The Packers will likely need to lean on their defense to keep pace. Hopefully for Green Bay backers, the running back room is in better shape than it was in Week 15. Quarterback Jordan Love is running short on targets, especially if Watson can’t go.

Weather looks good for the Windy City this Saturday, so I’ll lean toward the Over with this current number sitting just below the key stop of 47 points. Given the movement and extra tax on the Over 46.5, this total is likely hitting 47 or higher later in the week.
