The Washington Commanders get back franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels for their Week 5 tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers.
I'm betting on Daniels to have a big game on the ground, but that will not be enough to overcome an explosive Bolts aerial attack.
See how that factors into my Commanders vs. Chargers predictions and NFL picks for October 5.
Our best Commanders vs Chargers SGP for Week 5
Jayden Daniels returns to the Washington Commanders lineup after missing the last two weeks. But without two of his top three receivers, he'll have a tough time passing the ball against a Los Angeles Chargers stop unit that leads the league in defensive dropback success rate.
Daniels doesn't have the weapons to keep pace with the Chargers' offensive firepower, which is why I like L.A. to cover at home.
The Bolts have been more vulnerable on the ground (14th in defensive rush EPA) so expect Daniels to rely on his legs when his receivers are locked up in coverage.
On the other side of the ball, the Commanders have allowed more than 280 passing yards in each of the last three weeks and rank 28th in the league in defensive dropback EPA.
They'll get torched by Chargers QB Justin Herbert, who completed 25-of-34 passes for 318 yards against the Chiefs in the season opener before throwing for 300 yards against Denver in Week 3.
Herbert's favorite deep target is Quentin Johnston, who has hauled in a reception of 30+ yards in every game this year. The Commanders have been giving up a lot of explosive plays and won't be able to defend Johnston over the top.
