The San Francisco 49ers let a shot at the top spot in the NFC slip away last week, and now they head east to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, January 11.

My early 49ers vs. Eagles predictions and NFL picks are calling for Philly to take care of business at home, covering the spread, and keeping this total Under the number.

Early 49ers vs Eagles spread pick: Eagles -3.5

-115 at FanDuel

The Philadelphia Eagles rested starters in Week 18, while the San Francisco 49ers came up empty and handed over the No. 1 seed in the NFC during a 13-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

A quick peek at San Francisco's schedule shows the Niners haven’t been able to score their way to wins against quality defenses, with four of their five losses coming against teams ranking seventh or higher in defensive DVOA.

The Eagles are sixth in the metric while allowing the ninth-lowest EPA per play and fifth-fewest points per game (19.1).

San Francisco hasn’t been a defensive juggernaut, either, finishing 27th in defensive DVOA while allowing the ninth-highest EPA per play.

Given their bounty of weapons and a solid offensive line that could receive a boost in left tackle Lane Johnson (foot), the Eagles will find success on offense.

Additionally, Philly has played the 11th hardest schedule per PFF, while San Fran has faced the eighth easiest. The uptick in class will be too much on both sides of the ball on the highway for the Niners.

Early 49ers vs Eagles total pick: Under 46.5

-118 at FanDuel

The Eagles should aim to avoid going blow for blow with the 49ers, and star rusher Saquon Barkley will help make that a reality.

Barkley will be rested after sitting out Week 18, and he capped off the regular season by averaging 4.9 yards per tote across his final four games. The San Francisco defense also allowed the second-highest rushing success rate in the NFL while ranking 31st in PFF run defense grade and 24th in run defense DVOA.

The longer the Eagles have the football on offense, the better, and leaning on Barkley to keep the clock churning is the easiest way to keep the Niners and quarterback Brock Purdy on the sidelines.

Plus, as highlighted, San Francisco's offense will have a hard time against a strong Philadelphia defense anyway.
