Notre Dame lays 38.5 at home against Stanford, and the matchup points to a decisive edge. Geoff Clark breaks down the spread and total for Saturday in South Bend.

Notre Dame is laying 38.5 points in South Bend, but that monster number isn't scaring me away.

My Stanford vs. Notre Dame predictions target the favorite and an Over angle when Stanford visits Notre Dame Stadium Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Early Stanford vs Notre Dame spread pick: Notre Dame -38.5

Kalshi probability: 52%

As long as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish -38.5 doesn't go above -40, I'd prefer them over the Stanford Cardinal, which has one of the worst statistical profiles of any Power Four program.

Per CollegeFootballData.com, Notre Dame has a +25.80 SRS, which blends margin of victory with strength of schedule, while Stanford has a -12.60 SRS. When you add in home-field advantage, the Fighting Irish could easily be 42-point favorites. The Cardinal's three losses have come by an average of 40.3 points per game.

The only argument for Stanford ATS is Notre Dame's perceived lack of motivation. But because the Irish played with their food last week, beating North Carolina 37-26 as 21.5-point favorites, I'm predicting the Fighting Irish will smash the Cardinal in front of their home fans Saturday.

Early Stanford vs Notre Dame total pick: Over 54.5

Kalshi probability: 53%

The Over 54.5 is tradable up to 56.5.

The Fighting Irish's offense has a bigger edge in this matchup than its defense, which grades out in the 19th percentile nationally in explosive play rate allowed, per GameOnPaper.com. Out of desperation, I expect Stanford's offense to throw the kitchen sink at Notre Dame with trick plays.

Plus, the Fighting Irish have two All-American-caliber defenders, CB Leonard Moore and LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, listed as "questionable" on their injury report. Since I lean toward Notre Dame ATS, Stanford doesn't need to score a lot for this Over to hit.

My prediction: Notre Dame 52, Stanford 7.
