Cowboys tend to walk off into the sunset at the end of Westerns. I’m pretty sure that’s what we’re witnessing with Mick Gundy.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a disastrous season, and now their starting quarterback is hurt for at least the next month.

So, that means the Pokes are starting a freshman QB in the Autzen Zoo this week. As you might have guessed, my Oklahoma State vs. Oregon predictions break down why it’s going to be a tough afternoon for the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State vs Oregon prediction

Oklahoma State vs Oregon best bet: Oklahoma State team total Under 13.5 (-115)

The writing may be on the wall for Mike Gundy’s time in Stillwater. The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a disastrous 3-9 season.

Gundy went out and brought in new coordinators and rebuilt basically his entire team in the transfer portal, including quarterback Hauss Hejny. But Henjy broke his foot in Week 1 against FCS Tennessee-Martin.

The Pokes averaged just 4.9 yards per play in what turned out to be a 27-7 win. Now, Oklahoma State will turn to freshman quarterback Zane Flores, who will have to make his first career start at the rowdy Autzen Zoo in Eugene, Oregon.

That is not a place one would pick to make your first career start. Particularly against an Oregon team this talented. The Ducks should have a great defensive line and are expected to create a lot of pressure off the edge.

Oregon allowed just 4.2 yards per play in the win over FCS Montana State, including less than two yards per carry on the ground.

But this comes down to the fact that this is just an incredibly difficult spot for Flores. The atmosphere in Eugene is always insane. I can’t imagine what it will be like for an 18-year-old making their first career start.

I have a lot of trouble seeing Oklahoma State going above their team total in this one, and the Pokes are on quit watch awfully early in the season.

Oklahoma State vs Oregon same-game parlay

Let’s start this SGP off by adding Ducks running back Noah Whittington to go Over 75.5 rushing yards.

Whittington looks like the top back for Dan Lanning this season and put up 68 yards on 10 attempts in basically just the first half against Montana State. The Cowboys allowed Tennessee-Martin to rush for 116 yards last week.

However, Oregon also appeared to have a balanced offense. QB Dante Moore impressed, going 18-for023 for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

So, let’s also add Malik Benson Over 46.5 receiving yards to the ticket. Benson emerged as Dante Moore’s favorite target in Week 1, converting all five of his targets into 51 yards and a score.

Our deep-ball SGP: Ducks run up the score

  • Oregon could send this one Over basically on its own.
  • Lanning didn't like Gundy's comments about how much the Ducks spend, so don't be shocked if he gets his money's worth and runs up the score.
