The Indiana Hoosiers have done just about everything that can be asked from them except beating a top-tier opponent. The Oregon Ducks are the best opponent the Hoosiers will face this season. Such an upset would change both the Big Ten title race and the national championship picture.

Curt Cignetti’s entire ethos can be summed up in his emphasis of scripted drives. There is a reason Indiana has mounted a quality drive on at least one of its first two possessions of all five of its games this season.

Meanwhile, Dan Lanning has pushed his Oregon offense to top the first-half total in all three of the Ducks’ home games this season.

This top-10 Big Ten matchup should get out to an aggressive start.

Some of that aggression will come from the Oregon Ducks' ground game, no matter how many headlines are increasingly praising quarterback Dante Moore. Indiana has the No. 2 pass defense in the country in terms of expected points added (EPA) per dropback, but the Ducks will not mind that frustration.

Freshman Dierre Hill Jr. took on the biggest workload two weeks ago at Penn State, taking 10 carries for 82 yards after logging just 16 carries in the first four games.

That emphasis bodes well for Oregon’s running back room as it filters out some of its own frustrations.

Asking Dakorien Moore to catch a touchdown against such a quality passing defense may be a surprise, but he is decisively the Ducks’ best receiver, so if anyone is going to crack that top, it should be the freshman.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
