Seton Hall vs Providence picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

Every year the Big East gets better and better. Tonight, the conference is putting together a game between two Top-25 teams in the AP Poll. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Seton Hall hasn’t shot the ball particularly well this season, firing under 30% from long range on the year. However, the Pirates are also turning the ball over on just 16.1% of possessions and have been solid on the offensive glass, grabbing 31.2% of offensive rebounds.

Seton Hall has done better inside the arc, shooting 52.6%, and has hit over 75% of foul shots on the season while getting to the line at a high rate.

But the Pirates haven’t been known for offense this season. It’s the defense that’s helping them win games. Seton Hall is holding teams to an effective field goal percentage of 43% by limiting opponents to 24.7% from the three-point range.

Seton Hall has also held opponents to 22.1% offensive rebounds and just 45.5% from the field inside the arc. Despite all of this, teams are shooting over 79% from the foul line against Seton Hall.

So, while Seton Hall has dominated defensively and has won every game but one this season, they’ve also had to overcome some unlucky variance at the free-throw stripe. Providence, however, is getting to the line at one of the highest rates in college basketball. Seton Hall doesn’t foul very often, so it’ll be interesting to see how all of that plays out.

Providence has struggled from long range, just like Seton Hall, and will likely be limited on the glass against the Pirates.

Tonight’s game is evenly matched. I will say that Seton Hall defends the three better and if the Pirates can limit foul shots defensively, they’ll be in great shape to pull off this minor upset.

Prediction: Seton Hall +1 (-110)

The total is trending down a bit since opening and now I’m intrigued. For Seton Hall, the game plan will be to hold Providence away from the line. If Seton Hall is capable of doing that, not only will the Pirates win, but they’ll be able to keep this game Under the total.

Neither team should have much success from three-point range and it’s going to be hard to earn many offensive rebounds in this game as well.

If there’s going to be less fouling, then I agree with the line movement. I still think there’s value on the Under.

Prediction: Under 136.5 (-120)

I’m not the biggest fan of taking underdogs on the road, but Seton Hall already defeated Michigan on the road this season. They’ll be up to the challenge, especially with conference play starting for them.

I like Seton Hall to win by a couple of points. So, with that and the additional one point against the spread, I’ll take the Pirates here.

Pick: Seton Hall +1 (-110)
