The Sooners are hoping to end a two-game losing skid, while the Cowboys are riding a two-game winning streak and looking to avenge their February Bedlam rivalry loss to Oklahoma in Norman.

The Oklahoma Sooners were dealt a huge blow earlier this week when injured reserve center John Hugley IV was officially ruled out for the foreseeable future, including Saturday’s Bedlam tilt with the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Hugley has been out since injuring his knee in Oklahoma’s Bedlam win over Oklahoma State. Still, and since Hugley’s injury, the bench depth has been weakened, and the Sooners haven’t been offensively competitive in losses to Baylor and Kansas.

Losing one key reserve is rough, but Oklahoma could be without guard Rivaldo Soares. Missing Soares will further hurt the Sooners Saturday against a Cowboys side that has won two consecutive ballgames and is 5-0-0 ATS over their last five games as the underdog.

One of those Oklahoma State covers was against Oklahoma. Oklahoma State had their chances to win but shot just 17% from downtown and 31% from the field, yet they still found a way to cover the number shooting that poorly and should be able to do so again on Saturday.

That task won’t be easy for the Cowboys; Oklahoma boasts one of the best defenses in the country, but Oklahoma State bounced back from their Bedlam loss with a huge home win over BYU, ran it back with a solid away victory over Cincinnati, and have enough horses in the stable to continue that trend in their own barn on Saturday.

Oklahoma State has covered the number in five straight tilts, all as underdogs, and is 7-3-0 ATS over their last 10. They might miss reserve guard Connor Dow for the third-consecutive matchup, but they’ve found a way to cover the number without him and face an Oklahoma program with a 1–4-0 ATS record over their last five and 2-4-0 ATS as the away team this season. The Sooners are missing too many minutes, points, and caroms; their bench won’t make up for it, and the Cowboys will cover the spread.

Oklahoma has an Over/Under record of 1-4-0 to the Under over their last five and 2-8-0 to the Under over their previous 10. The Sooners are shorthanded and have struggled to put the ball in the hoop. Oklahoma State doesn’t play much defense and yields as many points as they score (71). It will be a classic Bedlam game ending Under the number like their past two head-to-head matchups have.

Oklahoma was an -11-point home favorite the last time these two programs met. That number included Hugley, Soares, and Dow. The Sooners prevailed by four points, but Soares did play 30 minutes.

Two key bench players out on the road in a rivalry matchup won’t be fun, especially not against a team that’s won two straight and is the healthier of the two with a rabid crowd that will spend 40 minutes cheering Cowboys and jeering Sooners.

Oklahoma State has covered against Oklahoma in nine of their last 10 meetings with one push, and +1.5 is the best number you’ll find straight across the US betting landscape but the odds are different.

Oklahoma State sometimes struggles offensively, and Oklahoma does have a tremendous defense. That, and the injuries to Hugley and Soares, remove nearly 16 points and nine caroms from an offense averaging 75.9 per game, and they haven’t cleared 70+ in their last three games.

That’s a bunch of points and rebounds the Sooners are missing and why I’m leaning towards an Oklahoma State upset. History is clearly on the side of the Cowboys–Oklahoma State has defeated their Bedlam foe in seven of their last 10 and three out of their last five. They’ve beaten Oklahoma in their last five at Gallagher-Iba Arena and could pull off an upset, especially if Soares can’t dress.
