Nevada vs San Jose State Odds, Picks and Predictions: Amey Hits His Marks vs Wolf Pack

Myron Amey Jr. struggled, along with the rest of the San Jose State roster, vs. Nevada in their most recent meeting in Reno. But our college basketball betting picks see Amey turning things around in his own barn.

The final game on the college basketball betting board on Friday is a late-night showdown between the Nevada Wolf Pack and San Jose State Spartans. The Wolf Pack have an impressive 21-6 record but the Mountain West Conference has been top-heavy, and they'll need all the wins they can get if they want to make the NCAA Tournament.

They shouldn't have much trouble tonight against a 9-18 Spartans squad that they hammered by 30 points earlier this month. College basketball odds have the Wolf Pack as 10-point road favorites for the rematch with the Over/Under at 140. Here are my best free college basketball picks and predictions for Nevada vs. San Jose State on Friday, February 23.

Nevada vs San Jose State picks and predictions

The Nevada Wolf Pack destroyed the San Jose State Spartans by a final score of 90-60 when these teams clashed in Reno three weeks ago. The Wolf Pack dominated on both ends of the floor and held San Jose State's best player, Myron Amey Jr., to 10 points. Amey went just 1-for-7 from beyond the arc and played only 25 minutes in that loss, but I expect a bounce-back performance from the guard tonight.

Keep in mind that Amey was benched when that game got out of hand, and he typically logs 30+ minutes. He's also usually a far more efficient shooter, averaging 15.7 points per game on 43/36/78 shooting splits.

Both teams also have stark home/away splits, with SJSU scoring 106.6 points per 100 possessions at home compared to 97.5 on the road, while Nevada has a defensive rating of 102.5 in away games — significantly higher than their 91.1 rating in Reno.

Amey has also been significantly more productive at home, where he averages 18.5 ppg and shoots 48.5% from the floor. With Amey dropping at least 19 points in his last three games and averaging 21.7 ppg over that span, take the Over 15.5 on his points total tonight.

My best bet: Myron Amey Over 15.5 points (-120 at bet365)

Nevada vs San Jose State same-game parlay

Myron Amey Over 15.5 points

Over 140.5

Nevada -5.5 (alt. spread)

Both of these teams play at a below average pace, but given how bad the Spartans are defensively and how much better they are offensively at home, I like the Over here. While I expect Amey and the Spartans to shoot the ball much better than they did in the first meeting, I don't see them shutting down Nevada on the other end of the floor. Especially since the Wolf Pack scored 90 points in that previous game and the Spartans are just 305th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency.

I'm reluctant to lay 10 points with the Wolf Pack on the road given that they might be might not take their opponent seriously, especially with a tough road game against Colorado State next on their schedule. However, they are still the far more talented squad on both ends of the floor, and I'll gladly back them with an alternate line where I can chop that spread in half.

Nevada vs San Jose State spread and Over/Under analysis

This line opened with Nevada at -9.5 with the total at 140. The spread has ticked up to -10 while the O/U hasn't budged off that opening number.

The Mountain West has been a battle ground this season with Nevada, Utah State, San Diego State, New Mexico, and Boise State all looking like possible conference champions. The Wolf Pack are currently tied for fifth place in the standings with a 8-5 record in conference play but have played better lately, going 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six games.

The Spartans are going through a brutal season and have been particularly bad in Mountain West play, where they are 2-12 with their only victories coming against an Air Force team that is even worse than they are.

SJSU is coming off a 32-point loss to Boise State and is just 1-8 SU and ATS in its previous nine contests. That said, the Spartans have been more competitive at home, going 6-7 with only three of those defeats coming by double-digits.
