The Missouri Tigers finish their season of buy games when they welcome Bethune-Cookman to town this afternoon.

The Tigers won Thursday night against Alabama State, but they hardly met expectations. After a strong first half that gave Missouri a double-digit lead, they were outscored in the second half in an 85-77 win. They’ll be looking for a better performance today.

I break down the matchup in my Bethune-Cookman vs. Missouri predictions and college basketball picks for today's game.

Bethune-Cookman vs Missouri prediction

Bethune-Cookman vs Missouri best bet: Missouri -19.5 (-110)

The pure shot volume disparity in this matchup tilts things toward the Missouri Tigers. I’m grabbing Missouri to cover as my best bet, a position that’s strengthened by the motivation of coming off an underwhelming performance.

This is a fairly efficient offense, as most Dennis Gates teams are, and it’s built around the two areas that usually bury overmatched teams: transition and second-chance possessions.

The Tigers run at a solid tempo, scoring 1.29 points per possession in transition at a massive 22.9% frequency, while Bethune-Cookman grades poorly defending transitions (1.16). If BCU can’t get back and build a wall, the first run comes fast.

The second separator is the glass and the foul line. Missouri has a good chance of overwhelming Bethune-Cookman on the offensive glass, given its outsized physical advantage against an already poor rebounding team.

The numbers tell that story plainly. Layer in a huge free-throw edge (Missouri 41.4 free-throw rate; BCU allows 41.3), and you’re talking about extra possessions plus stopped-clock points that stretch margins.

Bethune-Cookman can score on the other end, but the problem is that they start the game with such a mathematical disadvantage that it puts them behind from the jump. I’d play this to -21.

Bethune-Cookman vs Missouri same-game parlay

I’ll continue playing Missouri Overs against non-Power Five opponents until given a reason to stop. Four of its last five games against similar competition have gone Over. It makes sense with such a transition-dependent team.

The Tigers should get plenty of chances to run today, as Bethune-Cookman will have no objection to doing so.
