The Oklahoma City Thunder have already rallied from their NBA Cup semifinal loss, winning handily last night against the Clippers. But that combination could have made for an exhausting week, a deflating Saturday loss in Las Vegas and now the second night of a back-to-back.
Is that enough of a boost for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Honestly, probably not.
My Thunder vs. Timberwolves predictions expect effort from Minnesota, but little else. Let's get into my NBA picks before tip comes at 9:30pm ET on Friday, December 19.
Thunder vs Timberwolves prediction
Thunder vs Timberwolves best bet: Anthony Edwards Over 4.5 rebounds (-135)
Anthony Edwards has missed three straight games due to some foot soreness. The Minnesota Timberwolves have managed without him for two games, but the T-Wolves could not find any offensive rhythm on Wednesday in a loss to the Grizzlies.
Logic suspects Edwards would have played Wednesday if the Oklahoma City Thunder were not awaiting tonight. He has not been officially cleared, but expect him to return to action.
Whether his shot suffers from nearly two weeks off is another wonder, and one that scares off much faith in the Minnesota superstar’s scoring tonight.
Fortunately, he has a more reliable aspect against Oklahoma City. Edwards struggles to find much room against the Thunder, just as everyone in the NBA does.
But he plays an all-around game — something that stands out to Timberwolves fans more than anyone as a direct comparison to Andrew Wiggins’s time in Minnesota.
Edwards attacks the rim with and without the ball against the Thunder, and he rebounds more aggressively on the defensive end. He has cleared this prop in nine of his last 10 total games against OKC, dating back to the start of last season, the exception falling short by just the hook.
Averaging 8.2 rebounds per game across a 10-game sample size is more than sporadic effort. It is an intentional design against this particular opponent.

Thunder vs Timberwolves same-game parlay
Jaden McDaniels spent too much of the first quarter on Wednesday facilitating, costing him clearing his points prop in what has become a relative rarity.
Before that, McDaniels had cleared this prop in five of his last six games, and he has averaged 14.6 points in his last 10 games against the Thunder.
Admittedly, Oklahoma City won seven of those 10 games.

Our "from downtown" SGP: T-Wolves keep it close
Minnesota struggles to beat Oklahoma City, as everybody does, but the Timberwolves’ reserves have long played with a particular energy against the Thunder that keeps games closer than most teams manage.
