After taking a beating in Cleveland last time out, the San Antonio Spurs hope to get right when they visit the Big Easy and the New Orleans Pelicans tonight.
New Orleans is last in the West and tied with the Wizards for the fewest wins in the league with three, a big reason why they’re 9.5-point underdogs on Monday, December 8.
However, my Spurs vs Pelicans predictions and NBA picks think San Antonio’s injuries make this a lot closer than the spread suggests.

Spurs vs Pelicans best bet: Pelicans +10.5 (-110)
There’s no way to sugarcoat it: the New Orleans Pelicans are a bad basketball team, and they’re probably already into garbage time on their sad-sack season
The Pelicans are allowing 123.2 points per game, which ranks 28th in the NBA. Teams are shooting 49.8% against them, the second-worst mark in the league.
They’re also not healthy: Jordan Poole (quadriceps) and Herb Jones (calf) have already been ruled, joining Zion Williamson (adductor) on the sidelines.
The San Antonio Spurs are a Top-7 team in scoring, averaging 118.9 points per game, and sit 10th in scoring defense, allowing 114.5 points per game.
But they’re also missing star Victor Wembanyama (calf), who is expected to sit out despite making it through a full practice on Sunday, and return against LA in their NBA Cup game.
Stephon Castle (hip) also took part in practice, but he’s still considered questionable. He’s in the same boat as backup big Luke Kornet (ankle), while reserve guard Jordan McLaughlin (hamstring) will sit.
San Antonio has won both meetings this season, but the Pelicans have kept each decision under 10 points in both. In fact, the margin of victory in seven of the last eight meetings has been six points or less.
Even during this current skid, the Pels are a solid 4-2-0 against the spread.

De’Aaron Fox has been grooving lately, scoring at least 25 points in four straight on a crisp 52.1% shooting. He went for 24 in his only appearance against the Pels this year.
Trey Murphy III has led his team in scoring in three straight, averaging 25.7 points. He’s topped his 21.5 scoring line twice in those games, missing the third by a single point.

Devin Vassell has been lighting it up from distance, making at least three moneyballs in six of his last eight games. Vassell has hit the Over in both meetings against NOLA, going 10-for-22 (45.5%) from 3-point range.
Keldon Johnson has been providing healthy secondary scoring for the Spurs, and that 11.5-point scoring looks very enticing. He’s scored at least 12 points in eight of his last 10 games.
