Expert NBA preseason moneyline predictions for Oct. 5
Grizzlies vs Hawks:
Grizzlies
Every player on this Memphis Grizzlies roster has something to prove in preseason, with plenty of minutes and usage up for grabs now that Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant are out of the picture.
The Grizzlies will look to feature one of the favorites for NBA Rookie of the Year in Cameron Boozer, who should be able to capitalize on the interior against a more wing-oriented Atlanta Hawks roster.
Suns vs Pistons:
Suns
You always have to question motivation in an NBA preseason game, but there's some sneaky motivation for the Phoenix Suns with a couple of their key players. Devin Booker is from the Detroit area and always seems to have an extra bounce in his step when playing in Detroit, while Miles Bridges is making his Suns debut as a former Michigan State Spartan.
With Jalen Duren just signing his contract extension and missing the start of training camp, I doubt he's ready to roll in this matchup. Give me the Suns at 42%.
Knicks vs 76ers:
76ers
At home against the New York Knicks, I wouldn't be surprised if Nick Nurse & Co. use this as an opportunity to set an early tone.
If this game were against anyone else or on the road, I wouldn't expect to see the 76ers starters on the floor for very long or playing with much intensity, but at home against the Knicks, it just feels different.
Timberwolves vs Bucks:
Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks might not have the superstar you need to compete in the NBA regular season with Giannis Antetokounmpo now in Miami, but they do have a roster of 10-12 players who should be capable of playing meaningful NBA minutes.
In a playoff game, depth isn't nearly as important because 40 minutes from the Minnesota Timberwolves' best five is going to overwhelm 40 minutes from the Bucks' best five. In a preseason game, having players seven through 12 who can still create offense and have significant NBA experience matters.
Lakers vs Kings:
Kings
File this under a name you never expected to see in an NBA write-up ever again — and you definitely didn't expect it to be the reason we're placing a trade.
I think Ben Simmons is the key. When he gets minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers backups in a preseason game, he should be able to continue creating efficient offense for his teammates and the Sacramento Kings' bench players, while the Lakers' offense could lack a primary creator and stall for stretches.
