My analysis
Both the Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers seem to be heading towards another draft lottery finish, but the Nets have been in much worse form as of late.
Having now dropped five straight and having failed to score more than 105 points in regulation during that time, Brooklyn really has its back against the wall.
They came close to snapping the losing streak on Sunday night but lost an overtime thriller against the Jazz that saw Nic Claxton miss an alley-oop dunk with four seconds left in regulation and the Nets failing to even get a shot off with 2.1 seconds left in overtime.
Nevertheless, there isn't much optimism in the underlying numbers either. They rank dead last in offensive rating during this skid and the gap between them and the second-worst team is as large as the gap between that team and the eighth-worst team.
Portland, for comparison, has at least been near league average during that time according to the same metric (18th).
To Brooklyn's credit, they have been better defensively (23rd) during that time but again, the Trail Blazers have been better by a decent margin (17th).
And making matters worse for the Nets are the status of Bojan Bogdanovic (out), Cameron Johnson (game-time decision), Nic Claxton (game-time decision), and D'Angelo Russell (game-time decision).

Ben Simmons should have a favorable matchup against a Portland defense that allows the fifth most assists to opposing point guards.
He has gone over the mark just six times in the last ten games, but the potential assist volume has been there.
Simmons has ranked 13th in potential assists during those last ten games, but almost all of the players ahead of him have played 3-5 more games during that span. Of the 12 ranked ahead of him, only two rank higher in potential assists per game and only one ranks higher on a per minute basis.
Another area to attack in this matchup is Brooklyn's poor perimeter defense. Their 37.7% allowed on threes is the third-worst mark this year.
Anfernee Simons may be the best bet to take advantage of that, as Simons has gone over tonight's total of 3.5 in six of his last seven games and has shot an incredible 47.6% from three across his last eight games.
