The New York Knicks will return home for the second game of a back-to-back as they host the Charlotte Hornets at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

Both teams have played below the total lately, including against each other, which is why I’m taking the Under in my Hornets vs. Knicks predictions.

Hornets vs Knicks prediction

Hornets vs Knicks best bet: Under 235.5 (-114)

The New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets are only a week removed from their last meeting, in which New York scored a 129-101 win in Charlotte. While the size of the blowout was a bit of a surprise, the general approach to the game was right in the wheelhouse of both teams.

The Hornets are playing to an average total of 235.2 ppg, with the Knicks slightly lower at 233.8 ppg. Both teams rank well below average in pace of play, and they’ve both played strongly to the Under as of late. Charlotte has hit the Under in each of its last five games, while New York has done so in four of its last five.

For New York , it’s been a strong effort on the defensive end that has led to that trend. The Knicks have allowed only 105.4 ppg over their last five games, well below their season-long average (113.5). Meanwhile, Charlotte has struggled offensively all year long, but has seen its output drop further to 110.3 ppg over its last nine contests.

Those numbers aren’t going to change overnight, and the very nature of these teams — even at their best — suggests a low-scoring game. I’m taking the Under tonight.

Hornets vs Knicks same-game parlay

The Knicks are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games and beat the Hornets by 28 in Charlotte last week, so I’m confident in picking them to cover at home as well.

I’m expecting a strong performance out of New York guard Mikal Bridges as well, as he’s averaging 17.1 ppg on the year and is coming off a monster 35-point performance against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
