The New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians tangle on the diamond Tuesday evening at Progressive Field in Cleveland. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET.
The Yankees are looking to bounce back after suffering a 3-2 loss against the Guardians in the series opener on Monday night.
New York got off to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but then the offense dried up. Cleveland provided Shane Bieber with just enough offense to get the come-from-behind victory.

The Yankees have mostly been stuck in neutral during the early portion of the season. While they haven’t had a two-game losing streak yet, they also haven’t been able to piece together three wins in a row this year.
New York had two straight wins in Baltimore to close out a three-game set from April 7-9, but it arrived in Cleveland with a 3-2 loss.
Look for the Yankees to bounce back behind staff ace Gerrit Cole. Not only is he 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA and 0.89 WHIP through his first two outings, but he also dominated the Guardians last season. Cole was 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and a .163 opponent batting average (OBA) with 15 strikeouts across 12 2/3 IP in two outings last season.
It’s going to be an uphill climb for the Guardians, as they counter with Hunter Gaddis, who has had one poor outing and one good one.
Gaddis was hammered for four runs and five hits in just 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision in Seattle on March 31, before allowing just one hit and two walks in six scoreless frames last time out in Oakland in another no-decision. But the A’s offense — which owns a collective .198 batting average, 29th in the majors — is the ideal team to pad one’s stats against.
The Yankees aren’t going to disappoint with Cole on the bump, and Gaddis isn’t going to be able to shut down this offense like Bieber did. Look for New York to bounce back in a big way by breaking out the lumber.

Yankees vs Guardians moneyline analysis
The Yankees are a perfect 4-0 in their past four games following a loss. While New York is just 3-7 in its past 10 road games dating back to last season, it can be trusted Tuesday behind Cole. He is killing it this season, and crushed it against the Guardians in 2022.
The Yankees have dominated the American League Central, too, going 57-21 in their past 78 games, which is a .731 winning percentage. New York has also been impressive in the past five games against a right-handed starting pitcher, winning four of them.
In addition, New York has won 70 of the past 102 outings in Game 2 of a series, which is a .686 winning percentage.
For Cleveland, the offense started out well enough in Seattle and Oakland, going for six or more runs in four of six outings from March 31 to April 5. However, in four games since returning home, the Guardians are averaging just 4.0 runs per game.
Gaddis is going to need a lot more offensive support than that if he is to get the victory against Cole and the Yankees. It’s not happening. Back the Yankees, and go with two full units on this slam-dunk play.
Yankees vs Guardians Over/Under analysis
When looking at the total, look to the weather forecast first. For Tuesday’s game at Progressive Field, the forecast calls for winds blowing out to left field at a 9-12 mph clip.
If the sluggers on either the Yankees or Guardians can get the ball up into the air, this could be an easy Over result.
As it stands, the Over is 5-2-1 in the past eight games overall for the Guardians, while going 9-4 in the past 13 games at home dating back to last season. The Over is also 3-1-1 in the past five games following a win.
I think Cole is going to quiet the Cleveland bats, at least early on, so I’d be a little cautious on the Over. However, I think the New York offense gets to Gaddis early and often, and we could easily see a double-digit run total.

Gerrit Cole (2-0, 0.73 ERA): It’s early, but Cole is earning that hefty paycheck with a 2-0 record, 0.73 ERA, and 0.89 WHIP, while whiffing 19 batters through the first two starts. He also held the Guardians to a .163 OBA last season, striking out 15 batters in 12 2/3 IP in two outings.
Hunter Gaddis (0-0, 3.72 ERA): It’s been all or nothing for Gaddis through two outings, and he hasn’t had a decision in either of the contests. The good news is that he hasn’t served up any home runs through 9 2/3 IP, but I think that’s due to happen, especially with a wind blowing out to the power alley in left.
