Two of the top teams in the American League collide in the Bronx tonight when the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers finish off their three-game set at Yankee Stadium.

Detroit has dominated the series so far but a suspect pitching matchup could help the hosts break out of their slump.

I’ll break down why I’m taking the Over in my Tigers vs. Yankees predictions and MLB picks for Thursday, September 11.

Tigers vs Yankees prediction

Tigers vs Yankees best bet: Over 8.5 (-105)

The Detroit Tigers rolled to an 11-1 win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday, putting the series score at a lopsided 23-3.

After ending August on a 7-1 run, the Yankees’ offense has virtually vanished in September as the Pinstripes have scored just 11 runs over their last five games. I do think the Yankees buck that trend tonight, though, as the Tigers are opting for a bullpen game.

Reliever Tyler Holton toes the rubber tonight for Detroit in just his sixth start of the season. The southpaw owns a 3.80 ERA and a 1.12 WHP over 62 appearances but has not pitched more than 2 2/3 innings in any of his outings.

He’ll be backed up by a mediocre Tigers pen that ranks eighth in the AL in ERA (3.98).

The Yankees have enjoyed success against southpaws this year, batting .259 with a .306 BABIP vs. left-handers compared to .244/.277 vs. righties.

If New York’s offense comes up short again, Detroit can still carry the load as the Tigers are averaging an MLB-best 7.6 runs per game over the last week.

Tigers vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Detroit’s offense has been rolling and everyone is getting in on the action.

Riley Greene has scored a run in four straight games and seven of his last nine, while Wenceel Perez has crossed the plate in three straight and six of his last eight.

Greene and Perez are both batting in the top half of the Tigers lineup and should be in the middle of the action again tonight.
