Carlos Rodon and Cal Quantrill are on opposite ends of a possible pitch count adjustment, and Nick Martinez might struggle to get deep after coming off a season-high in pitches in his last start.

Photo By - Reuters Connect. New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (55) delivers a pitch during the first inning against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

I'm on the MLB player prop beat today and targeting three plays with huge expected value upside. Carlos Rodon will be on a pitch count in his first game back, and it might not be enough to hit his Over K prop.

Meanwhile, Cal Quantrill's leash is also not fully priced in after rejoining the rotation, and Nick Martinez is coming off a season-high in pitches.

These are my MLB picks featuring pitcher props for Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Strikeout prop: Carlos Rodon Under 4.5 strikeouts (+127)

Carlos Rodon is making his first start since late June, but he threw just 58 pitches in his final rehab start — making a projected pitch count around 70 or fewer likely.

Getting to five punchouts on that short of a leash in his first start back is worth the Under at plus money. His projection is 4.47 Ks on 69 pitches.

Rodón's K prop when healthy with a decent 95-pitch leash was just 5.5 strikeouts. Thirty pitches is massive, and one K difference is enough to swing this number.

This should be shorter than a dollar for Under 4.5 Ks today, especially with the Yankees coming off a day off and having a full, fresh bullpen.

Strikeout prop: Cal Quantrill Over 3.5 strikeouts (-110)

How about this low number on Cal Quantrill, who oddsmakers might be underestimating in terms of his potential pitch count?

Two games ago, Quantrill was in the Texas bullpen, but he was stretched out to 91 pitches in his first start after returning to the rotation.

He put up six Ks against the Halos, who have a 26.7% K rate this month, and could match those numbers again today against the Nats.

Washington's 24.7% K rate in August is the seventh-worst mark in baseball, and Quantrill should be able to push 15 to 18 outs today on a 90+ pitch leash.

His Over projects +EV, with THE BAT projecting just 82 pitches, and that pitch count could certainly be short.

This is a fair price of -130 based on that low 82-pitch projection.

Pitcher outs prop: Nick Martinez Under 17.5 outs (+129)

Nick Martinez is coming off a hefty 101-pitch complete game, well above his season averages. The Rays SP was averaging just 81.5 pitches per start over his previous 10 outings before the 27-out performance.

Only once during that 10-game stretch had Martinez thrown more than 85 pitches.

The Jays are playing winning baseball right now and are a low-K team that can force Martinez to work. Toronto has also seen him twice already this season, giving them a familiarity edge.

The projections are calling for 85 pitches and fewer than 17 outs, and that doesn't account for the season-high workload from his last start.

The break-even price is -110 here.
