The Minnesota Twins are in a total spiral, losing 10 of 13 games before this past weekend, when they were outscored 35-14 by Milwaukee.
Facing the Seattle Mariners will not be much of a salve, and my Mariners vs. Twins predictions and MLB picks expect Cal Raleigh to be the one who continues bringing the hurt to Minnesota.
First pitch will be at 7:40 ET on Monday, June 23, and coincidentally, yours truly will actually be in attendance.
Mariners vs Twins prediction
My Mariners vs Twins best bet: Cal Raleigh home run (+170 at Caesars)
Someone on the Seattle Mariners’ marketing team should take advantage of this road trip by going around the away venues and asking fans who they think is leading baseball in home runs.
As casual fans — the kind who go to a game on a Monday night because a friend is in town — repeatedly say Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, Seattle could have a viral social media video on its hands.
Because the answer is not Judge, nor Ohtani.
Cal Raleigh has 31 home runs to Judge’s 27 and Ohtani’s 26. Hitting five home runs in the last five games will create that kind of shift.
Perhaps just as impressively, Raleigh has gone 10 of 20 in those five games. He's seen the ball well all season, but he's reached a whole other level this past week.
That should continue against Minnesota Twins’ starter Bailey Ober, who has given up eight home runs in his last four starts, throwing 21 1/3 innings.
Ober has been fighting through “some left hip stuff” all season, and he appears to be losing that fight these days. Minnesota cannot afford to give him rest, not with Pablo Lopez and Zebby Matthews suffering injuries. Ober needs to keep throwing, and right now he's throwing poorly.
Cue up another Raleigh home run — another allowed by Ober.
Caesars QuickPick: Our Mariners vs Twins same-game parlay (SGP)
If the Twins had any semblance of depth — a criticism aimed directly at an ownership group worried more about its debt than its franchise — Ober would miss a few starts to sort out his body. Alas, he is effectively a pitching sacrifice at this point for a team with dwindling postseason hopes.
Caesars will not allow a same-game parlay to include both a Raleigh home run and anything it would influence — Ober’s earned runs allowed, outs recorded, etc. — but pairing it with the Under on his strikeouts makes sense given he has not recorded six Ks in any of his last seven starts.
Both of those thoughts would correlate to the Mariners winning easily tonight, but so does the Twins’ bullpen being a bit lackluster. Again, fault an ownership group trying to sell the franchise at a premium despite refusing to better it in the last two winters.
