The San Diego Padres get a cushy matchup tonight as Eduardo Rodriguez and the Arizona Diamondbacks come to Petco Park.

Fernando Tatis Jr. headlines our Diamondbacks vs. Padres predictions as he measures up well against the Arizona southpaw.

I dig deeper into the odds with my MLB picks for Saturday, September 27.

Diamondbacks vs Padres prediction

Diamondbacks vs Padres best bet: Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 total bases (+115)

Eduardo Rodriguez's tenure in the Arizona Diamondbacks rotation has been nothing short of disastrous. Injuries limited him to 50 innings in 2024, and things haven't been much better in 2025 despite largely being healthy.

The veteran southpaw owns a 4.91 ERA with an expected ERA of 4.49 and an expected batting average of .268, both ranking among the worst 30% in baseball.

San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is their typical leadoff hitter and returned to the lineup in style after a brief absence, going 1-for-5 with a grand slam on Friday night. He's cleared 1.5 total bases in seven of his last 12 games.

Tatis has also done the bulk of his damage with the power stroke at home, hitting 16 of his 24 long balls at Petco Park. Rodriguez would rank just outside the Bottom 10 in HR/9 if he qualified.

Getting Tatis at plus money to get 2+ total bases after going deep in each of his last two games is the icing on the cake.

Diamondbacks vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Tatis having a strong day correlates with each of our other two legs, especially as we continue to fade E-Rod.

Rodriguez has gone Under this number in four of five starts, but that's only helping our number here. He isn't missing bats, and the Padres are one of the best home teams in baseball with a 50-29 record.

  • Padres -1.5
  • Eduardo Rodriguez Over 2.5 earned runs
