The San Diego Padres welcome the Milwaukee Brewers for Game 2 of their three-game series at PETCO Park. According to the MLB odds, San Diego is a slight -115 favorite, with the total set at 8.5.

For my Brewers vs. Padres predictions, I’m backing one side in this National League showdown.

Read on for my MLB picks for Tuesday, September 23.

Brewers vs Padres prediction

Brewers vs Padres best bet: Brewers moneyline (-105)

The Milwaukee Brewers enter this game with one of the most productive offenses in baseball. This season, the Brewers rank second in runs scored per game, 12th in slugging percentage, 10th in OPS and second in stolen bases.

Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres ranks in the bottom half of the league in each of those four key categories. Not only does Milwaukee own the hitting advantage, but it possesses the pitching advantage as well.

The Padres hand the ball to right-hander Randy Vásquez, who owns some of the worst underlying metrics in baseball. Entering this matchup, Vásquez ranks in the 11th percentile or lower in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), strikeout rate and barrel rate.

Furthermore, the current Milwaukee roster boasts a .447 expected slugging percentage (xSLG) through 38 combined plate appearances against the right-hander.

On the other side, the Brewers are going with a bullpen game. Milwaukee’s relief corps ranks in the top 10 in ERA, xERA, fielding independent pitching (FIP) and wins above replacement (WAR).

Brewers vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Vásquez particularly struggles to generate swings and misses, ranking in the 14th percentile in chase rate, first percentile in whiff rate and second percentile in strikeout rate.

If the Brewers are to win this game, they will also need production at the plate. Enter Brice Turang, who boasts a .600 batting average and .600 slugging percentage through six plate appearances against Vásquez.
