Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Toronto Blue Jays MLB
Photo By - Reuters Connect. Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (27) celebrates after he hits a home run in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ended his hitting slump last night, and I think he’ll deliver again for the Toronto Blue Jays in this important matchup against the New York Yankees.

Read on to see why with my Blue Jays vs. Yankees predictions and MLB Picks on Monday, May 18.

Blue Jays vs Yankees predictions

Blue Jays vs Yankees best bet: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases (+125)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finally busted out of his 0-for-22 slump yesterday with a two-hit day, including his first homer since April 19.

That will open the floodgates.

Guerrero's analytics have him primed for positive regression, and now that he's broken out, I expect the Toronto Blue Jays' slugger's bat to heat up.

Despite his cold spell, Vladdy still ranks in the 97th percentile with a .301 expected average

It’s also a good matchup for him, as New York Yankees left-hander Ryan Weathers is primarily a fastball thrower, and Vladdy owns a .357 average against heaters with a .536 slug.

Blue Jays vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

I’ll also add Kazuma Okamoto Over 0.5 hits. He’s eclipsed this total in seven of his last eight games, and is a great fastball hitter, which Weathers uses as his primary pitch.

For the final leg of my SGP, I'll take Patrick Corbin to go Over his 14.5 outs total. The veteran lefty has been a reliable arm since joining the rotation and has recorded 15 or more outs in four of his last six starts.

Blue Jays vs Yankees SGP

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases
  • Kazuma Okamoto Over 0.5 hits
  • Patrick Corbin Over 14.5 outs

Blue Jays vs Yankees home run pick: Kazuma Okamoto (+425)

Weathers can be prone to the long ball, as exhibited in his outing against the Angels earlier this season, where he gave up four homers.

However, he’s only allowed three homers combined in the other seven starts this season, so I’m only making this bet a half-unit wager this evening.

Okamoto has a team-high 10 home runs, while ranking in the 95th percentile in hard-hit rate.

The Jays slugger owns a .295 average and a .636 xSLG against the four-seam fastball, which is Weathers’ most used pitch against right-handed batters.
