The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) announced a new, easy-to-recall phone number Thursday for those in need of help and resources.
Key Takeaways
- The NPGC will keep both the new and previous hotlines active.
- State adoption will vary based on regulatory requirements.
- Individuals needing problem gambling resources can use the confidential hotline 24/7.
The National Problem Gambling Hotline can be reached at 1-800-MY-RESET. The new number, the NCPG says, strengthens visibility nationally and modernizes the network. Additional resources associated with the new number will expand throughout 2026 and 2027 in the NCPG's efforts to increase awareness.
The NPGC says nearly 20 million adults in the U.S. have reported at least one indicator of gambling harm over the past year.

Maurer, MA, CAE. “Making the number easier to remember helps ensure people across the country can quickly connect with high-quality, confidential support when they need it.”

State regulations
The NCPG will continue to operate its previous hotline number, 1-800-522-4700. The new number’s adoption will vary by state, based on regulatory requirements. The NCPG said it will promote the new number and encourage states to make the switch.

Offering support
The National Problem Gambling Helpline is a free, confidential 24/7 network with 24 contact centers in the U.S. Trained professionals are available to help individuals receive problem gambling support at any point. The non-stigmatizing network can refer the public to local resources as well. The NCPG takes a neutral standpoint on legalized gaming and efforts to reduce gambling-related harm.
“Problem gambling support should never be limited to a single moment or a single definition of harm,” said Derek Longmeier, president of the NCPG board of directors. “1-800-MY-RESET reinforces that the National Problem Gambling Helpline is available at any stage - whether someone is worried about themselves, concerned about a family member, or simply looking for trusted guidance. Making the Helpline number easier to remember is a practical, meaningful step toward reducing barriers to care.”
There are currently 39 states running legalized sports betting and more than a handful that offer iGaming. In-person casinos are located throughout the U.S. as well.
