Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin had a piece of advice for bettors ahead of this weekend’s clash between his 13th-ranked Rebels and the No. 4 LSU Tigers.
Kiffin responded to a viral post on X with three simple words ahead of Saturday’s afternoon showdown: “Take the over.”
Key Takeaways
- Kiffin responded to a post that discussed the “mind games” being played by his daughter
- Landry Kiffin posted a picture on Instagram sitting in the lap of LSU star Whit Weeks
- Sportsbooks dropped the projected points total from 56.5 at opening to 54.5
Kiffin, who is known for having a much larger social media presence than most coaches in the NFL or college landscape, wasn’t just talking to the gamblers of America in his tweet.
The original post – which has more than 400,000 views – outlined a supposed romantic connection between LSU’s star linebacker, Whit Weeks, and one of Kiffin’s daughters, Landry.
The younger Kiffin posted a picture of her sitting in Weeks’ lap with the caption “happy :)” on Instagram on Monday, five days before the SEC showdown between ranked rivals.
OutKick college sports reporter Trey Wallace said in the original post that the picture represented “peak mind games.”
That prompted Kiffin to buy into the joke, encouraging anyone betting on the game to take the over on the projected points line.

Reaction to Kiffin’s post
Several sportsbooks responded to Kiffin’s words of encouragement for bettors.
DraftKings replied with a simple “oh” and an eye emoji. betr replied with “Say less dad,” and a screenshot of a $500 entry at -120 odds on the game to beat the projected line of 54.5 total points.
Social trading platform Vala also said, “this gotta be insider trading” in response to Kiffin’s post.
Despite the Ole Miss coach’s prediction, sportsbooks have dropped the projected points total since odds were first published. What was once a line of over/under 56.5 points is down to 54.5 at every sportsbook except for FanDuel, which still has the line at 55.5 points, but with -115 odds on the under.
Sportsbooks also have Ole Miss as a consensus 1.5-point favorite despite being ranked lower than LSU and losing last year’s matchup, 29-26.
A decisive matchup
BetMGM shared with Covers earlier this week that LSU is the sportsbook’s biggest liability in National Championship odds betting.
The Tigers are down from +2000 at opening to +1000 and have 9.7% of futures tickets and 11.1% of the handle, the second and third-highest amounts of all teams. For comparison, Ole Miss is up from +2500 to +3500 and has 0.7% of tickets and of the handle.
LSU is also the public’s pick to win the SEC, with 20.5% of tickets and 15.5% of the handle - both leading marks. The team has shortened from +1000 at opening to +600 to win the conference, making this one of the most important weeks of their season. Ole Miss is at +1300 with 2.7% of tickets and 1.2% of the money.
LSU still has No. 18 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 17 Alabama, and No. 7 Oklahoma on their schedule after this weekend. Ole Miss has No. 5 Georgia and No. 7 Oklahoma.
