The Carolina Panthers are the second-most bet team against the spread this week at BetMGM, as they face a Philadelphia Eagles squad without quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been at the forefront of significant line movement recently, leaving bettors trying to figure out how to handle the NFC East squad.

Key Takeaways
  • Eagles went from being a slight favorite to an underdog with the announcement that Jalen Hurts is out.
  • Panthers are getting hammered on the moneyline at BetMGM.
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. is a popular bet to find the end zone in his Texans debut.

Injuries to offensive stars Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert have hampered a team that was once one of the top three teams with the shortest odds to win the conference. Philadelphia went from +3.5 to +7.5 last week.

Now, heading into a Week 6 showdown with the Carolina Panthers, the Eagles are without quarterback Jalen Hurts, who’s dealing with a previously undiagnosed blood clot in his calf.

That news on Thursday sent Sunday’s spread plummeting. The line went from Eagles -1.5 at the start of the week to Panthers -3.5 by Friday afternoon. DraftKings reported that 60% of the spread bets are on Carolina, but 75% of the money is still backing the now Tanner McKee-led Eagles.

This is the fifth most-bet game of the week so far at BetMGM, where the Panthers are the second most-bet spread team by tickets and fifth by handle. They are getting 65% of the bets and 60% of the money. Also, 80% of the moneyline handle is on Carolina, which is coming off a bye week. BetMGM told Covers that more than 60% of the money was on the Panthers even before Hurts was ruled out.

Nearly 40% of the Panthers vs. Eagles tickets have been written on the Eagles at both operators, but DraftKings has seen a lesser 56% of the moneyline handle back the Panthers.

Rise and shine

Bettors are having no trouble backing a Jacksonville Jaguars team that knocked off the Eagles last week in London and got to stay across the pond ahead of Sunday’s early morning game against the Houston Texans.

Jacksonville (-2.5) is the most-bet team by tickets to cover at BetMGM, where the Jags are getting more than 80% of the bets and money. The London favorite is also the third-most popular spread bet by handle, and Texans vs. Jaguars is the second most-bet game of the week.

The Texans are seeing 46% of the moneyline handle at BetMGM, but a much lesser 25% at DraftKings, coming off of their first win of the season last week at Tennessee.

Backing Maserati Marv

Bettors are confident that a new team is going to turn Marvin Harrison Jr. around on Sunday morning.

The former Arizona receiver, who was traded to the Texans last week, is leading the anytime touchdown and first touchdown scorer markets at BetMGM in tickets. He’s got odds of +425 and +2,500, respectively, against the Jaguars, despite only recording one touchdown this season with the Cardinals.

Carolina QB Bryce Young (+625) is the second most-bet player to score an anytime touchdown this week, followed by Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (-145), New York Giants tight end Isaiah Likely (+200), and Green Bay Packers wideout Christian Watson (+120).

Coming off a bye week with the Kansas City Chiefs, BetMGM customers are expecting a fresher Kenneth Walker to surpass his 89.5 rushing yards total on Sunday, and they also like Texans running back Woody Marks to catch at least three passes in a starting role for the injured David Montgomery.

Sunday’s best

No game has received more action heading into the weekend than Chargers-Chiefs. Kansas City (-7.5) is getting the majority of the spread tickets and money at both sportsbooks. However, the L.A. Chargers (+340) are the most popular moneyline underdog of the week at BetMGM.

Fresh off Monday’s thrilling overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, the popular Bills (-4.5 at Raiders) are once again the most-bet team by handle at BetMGM with nearly 90% of the money.

The New England Patriots crack the top five in both of BetMGM’s categories as a 7.5-point favorite over the New York Jets in the third most-bet game of the week. Rams-Cardinals share an interesting split at DraftKings, where 51% of the bets are on 12.5-point favorite Los Angeles, but Arizona has been hammered with 84% of the money.

The Dallas Cowboys, a 1.5-point underdog at Green Bay, are usually one of the most-bet teams of the week, but DraftKings reported a near-even split on the money and bets. Bettors do like the over 53, making this game the most-bet total of the week at BetMGM.

Sunday night’s Commanders-49ers handle is nearly completely one-sided on San Francisco (-7.5) at DraftKings.
