The week ending Oct. 12 was a huge one for New York’s eight online sports betting operators.
Key Takeaways
- New York sportsbooks saw profits increase 234% from the same week in 2024.
- Empire State bettors wagered more than $500 million for the eighth consecutive week.
- FanDuel and DraftKings hit bettors hard.
During a week in which the New York Yankees were eliminated from the MLB playoffs and a heavy slate of NFL and college football games went their way, the New York Gaming Commission reported that mobile sportsbooks generated $68.8 million in gross revenue, a 127.8% week-over-week increase.
It’s the highest-grossing week for operators in 2025 and the second-largest profit haul ever, behind the week ending May 12, 2024. Week 6 in the NFL helped produce a 234% increase compared to the same week in 2024.
Empire State sportsbooks enjoyed a 12.4% hold during their best week of the 2025 football season and showed the first signs of a rally from a September that saw profits slip 6%. The first week of October only generated $30.2 million on a 5.1% hold.
The handle during the week ending Oct. 12 reached $554.1 million, a 6.3% week-over-week decrease, but it marked the eighth consecutive week with more than $500 million in wagers.
Big boys destroy bettors
FanDuel was a big beneficiary of the New York sports betting operators’ stranglehold over bettors during the week ending Oct. 12. The online sportsbook hauled in $31.6 million, surpassing $30 million in gross revenue for just the third week in 2025.
FanDuel also reclaimed its spot at the top with a $207.7-million handle and shook off a couple of lackluster weeks to enjoy a massive 15.2% hold for the week, one of its highest ever in New York.
DraftKings wasn’t able to capture that kind of win rate, but the online sportsbook bounced back from last week, going from $7.6 million to $23.6 million. However, DraftKings’ handle slipped below $200 million, ending a six-week streak of at least that amount bet.
Still, DraftKings dominated bettors with a 12% hold. New York’s two market-share leaders in sports betting generated 80% of the Empire State’s total gross revenue.
Feeling gains
Five of the remaining six online sportsbooks in New York saw revenue increase week-over-week during the latest period. Fanatics Sportsbook experienced a significant surge, increasing from $2.4 million to $4.7 million. The operator generated $43 million in wagers to capture a 10.9% win rate.
BetMGM was the only operator not to see week-over-week gains as it generated $2.4 million from a $41.4 million handle. Caesars fell short of a double-digit hold from its $38.7 million.
ESPN BET made $1.1 million from a $12.5-million handle, while BetRivers enjoyed an 11.2% hold from $11.6 million in wagers. Bally Bet produced an 8.3% win rate on a $3.6-million handle.
