Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady believes that the format change for the NBA All-Star tournament will make the event more competitive.

A BetVictor Canada ambassador, McGrady added that the addition of the young players to the mix will bring the level of competition up because the veteran players will not wish to be eclipsed by the league's bright stars.

"Throwing the young guys into the mix in this way makes the whole NBA All-Star tournament more competitive. Those veteran players are not going to want to lose to the Rising Stars; big brother won't want to be upstaged by little brother," McGrady explained.

He also stated that the monetary incentives, wherein each winning team member will be paid $125,000, will also motivate the players to play at a higher level.

With a new format now established, the 2025 NBA All-Star Game will be a more high-stakes game that will test young and old players even more than in previous years. McGrady views this as a long-overdue change that will test the event to be more exciting and content-rich for the public and the players.

McGrady, a 16-year NBA veteran who won consecutive scoring titles in 2003 and 2004, is highly respected by basketball fans for his career achievements, including several franchise records with the Orlando Magic.

In October, he partnered with BVGroup as the Safer Gambling Ambassador for the BetVictor brand in Canada. Owing to the highly regulated Ontario gambling legislation, his position is specially directed towards applying responsible gaming principles and secure gaming practices for Canadian bettors.

NBA All-Star Tournament heads to California

The NBA All-Star Series is a yearly convergence of the league's finest players, dedicated to a weekend of enjoyment and competition. The event's centerpiece, the NBA All-Star Game, brings together the league's top players to compete in a showcase exhibition game. Over the past several years, the format has evolved to make the game more appealing to fans while incorporating player feedback.

The NBA All-Star Weekend will be held this weekend in San Francisco, California, at the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors. Currently, sports betting is illegal in California

It includes a number of competitions, such as the Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, and Slam Dunk Contest, in addition to the All-Star Game itself.

One of the most significant developments in the 2025 format is the integration of younger players, which is intended to make it a more competitive setting. The Rising Stars Challenge has been a showcase for the NBA's top rookies and sophomores for years, but under the new format, those young stars will face off directly against veteran All-Stars.

The change aims to devise a more thrilling competition that can enhance the event’s overall appeal to fans.
