Toy company Mattel’s popular card game is coming to Las Vegas, but players won’t be able to turn the skills they learned as kids into a money-making gambling venture.

Key Takeaways

  • Mattel’s first UNO Social Club is designed as a promotional game to kick off an expansion into other U.S. cities
  • Internet rumors of a casino-type table game involving UNO ran rampant on social media this week
  • A contest winner and guest will have access to several versions of the card game in an UNO-themed suite at Palms Casino Resort

Palms Casino Resort, an off-Strip property, will host the first-ever UNO Social Club this weekend, but no form of betting is expected, Mattel said in a press release earlier this year.

Based on erroneous media reports, rumors ran rampant over the last few days that UNO would be a casino table game, similar to blackjack or poker. It led to wild speculation on social media about how betting would take place and what players would do when they’re hit with a “draw 4” card right before they go out.

However, that is not the case as the UNO Social Club is holding a promotional game to give fans of the fast-paced, card-shedding competition a non-gambling experience. This was quite disappointing to many social media users, who were ready to skip, reverse, and yell “UNO” on their way to big paydays in Vegas.

As fun as it seemed to many fans of UNO, any new betting game in Las Vegas would have to go through a rigorous approval process with the Nevada Gaming Control Board and would likely have been made public months ahead of this weekend's debut.

Connection and competition

Mattel’s contest, which ran May 19 through June 19, involved fans ages 21 and up making creative videos using UNO hashtags on the social media app TikTok to win the game night experience.

The winner and a guest will stay at the Palms and play in the exclusive, “decked-out” UNO-themed suite Friday through Sunday.

“We created UNO Social Clubs to reimagine what game night can be - bringing people together for real-world fun, connection, and a bit of friendly competition,” Ray Adler, Vice President and Global Head of Games at Mattel, said earlier this year. “The UNO Social Club in Las Vegas is just the beginning, and we’re excited to see how these new experiences inspire players to show up, play hard, and make unforgettable memories.”

Social experience

Mattel plans to open more UNO Social Clubs in bars and venues in other major U.S. cities throughout 2025. The events will include UNO-themed drink menus, tournament-style play, photo moments, and more.

The UNO Social Club Las Vegas will feature multiple tables with new extensions to make the games more competitive and a bowling alley. Various versions of the card game that many people grew up playing as kids, including UNO Golf, UNO Teams, and UNO Show ‘em No Mercy. Each table will have a host to shuffle decks, similar to a casino-style game.

“UNO Social Clubs transform game nights into an elevated social experience where friends connect, compete, and create memories in venues across the country,” Mattel said in a release.
