FanDuel Predicts, the sports betting giant’s prediction market platform, is celebrating March Madness by giving away $25 to anyone who creates an account this month.
The new promotion is also offering a free tank of gas at a hand-picked location by ambassador and retired NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski in Tampa, Florida.
Key Takeaways
- The offer is available to customers in all 50 states until the end of March.
- Prediction market prices are based on customer input, not house-made odds.
- The first round of March Madness will begin on Thursday.
FanDuel is used to dominating the sports betting industry. Launching FanDuel Predicts allowed it to expand into the world of rapidly-growing prediction markets, which allow customers to buy and sell contracts related to outcomes in real-world events, including sports.
The platform allows customers to buy “Yes” or “No” outcomes for different events, including games in March Madness. It is live in all 50 states and Washington D.C., despite its sportsbook only being operational in 27 states.
Anyone who doesn’t already have a FanDuel Predicts account will receive $25 in their account after they complete registration, so long as the account is made before the end of the month.
Additionally, Florida guests and residents are in luck.
In honor of finishing his playing career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, four-time Super Bowl champion Gronk chose Marathon Gas Station as 1239 E Kennedy Blvd in Tampa as the location of FanDuel’s free gas giveaway. Anyone in the area can drop by from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. for a refill.

Prediction platforms remain controversial
Prediction markets have emerged as an alternative to traditional sports betting.
While 11 states still haven’t legalized sports betting, and numerous others have a variety of restrictions, all prediction platforms licensed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and not otherwise restricted are eligible to offer markets in various industries, including sports.
FanDuel Sportsbook’s March Madness odds have Arizona (+370) as a slight favorite over Michigan (+380) and Duke (+390). Defending champion Florida (+850) is fourth and the only other team below +1100.
While those house-made odds show there is a near-three-way tie for the odds lead, prediction market prices are influenced by real-time market dynamics. The supply and demand from customers influences the ever-changing prices, which are reflections of the user base’s sentiment.
Despite those differences, many state officials have argued that sports event contracts should be subject to local regulation. That disagreement has led to a series of legal challenges all over the country.
March Madness schedule
FanDuel Predicts’ offer runs through the end of March, which means that users have opportunities lasting through the Elite Eight to create their accounts.
The second half of the First Four will conclude later today, and the Round of 64 will begin on Thursday.
The Tournament will wrap up on Monday, April 6.
