Betr Expands Into More Traditional Sports Betting Markets

Ohio is the only state Betr is currently operating live in, but the sportsbook app is on the periphery of going live in two other key markets.

Betr is making a major change with its legal sports betting product on the eve of college basketball’s premier sporting event of the year.

The sports betting app that’s focused primarily on micro-betting is taking a crack at more typical wagering options for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, but with a twist.

In an announcement made on Wednesday, Betr said that it will offer bettors the chance to wager on pre- and in-game moneylines, spreads, and totals. To help draw customers, those core-market wagers that can also be found among its competitors can be placed with a 0% margin, meaning Betr’s sports bettors won’t be paying a vig during the wildest days in March.

Why the expansion?

Founded by Joey Levey and social media influencer and boxer Jake Paul, Betr has previously focused on in-play betting that occurs in real-time to stand out from the competition and establish a brand.

Levey said in an official release that Betr also chose to focus on micro-betting when it was founded in 2022 to “launch as soon as possible” and to better its product down the road.

“Now that we have done this successfully, we are putting Betr on a path to establishing betting market coverage product parity with incumbent operators, which will include the gradual and methodical integrations and launches of core markets, parlays, props, and many of the other betting experiences consumers can find elsewhere," Levey said.

It was also announced that Simplebet — which partnered with Betr — will provide the wagering technology and interface.

"The core markets on Betr will be the first launch of Simplebet-powered core markets on any platform, so we are excited to be at the forefront of their innovation efforts as they continue expanding their suite of product offerings," Levey said.

Good timing

Ohio is the only state Betr is currently operating live in, but the sportsbook app is licensed in three states. Betr is slated to go live in Massachusetts very soon, and micro- and macro-betting through the app will be coming to Virginia down the road as well.

Expanding its product now to bettors in Ohio could give the company a glimpse into the future. It also won't hurt as it battles established online sports betting sites like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM.

Along the lines of the Super Bowl, March Madness is an extremely popular wagering event, so it’s not surprising that Betr chose now to offer core markets. The American Gaming Association estimated last year that over 45 million Americans bet on the annual NCAA Tournament.
