Before we get to the UFC 132 Betting some other MMA Odds News - Maybe the better question is: Would anybody care? Former boxer James Toney and MMA legend Ken Shamrock will certainly put the ol' tree-falls-in-the-woods metaphor to the test when they meet in their proposed "special rules" bout, wherever and whenever it actually happens. As a guy who cares about MMA and a guy who spends at least one second every year worrying about the health of Ken Shamrock however, I gotta say I was a touch horrified when I heard the aging pair had agreed to a stipulation requiring stand-ups from the ground after just 30 seconds.
That rule clearly puts the advantage in the corner of the boxer, no matter how decrepit he may be. Shoot, it even took Randy Couture three minutes, 19 seconds to hook up a submission on Toney. That's almost seven stand-ups, which equates to seven chances for Toney to land a knockout punch. The one thing we have to believe James Toney can still do is punch hard and the one thing we're certain Shamrock can still do (after his last eight losses) is get punched hard. Not sure those are great odds for the former UFC great. Make some money this weekend with out UFC 132 Picks.
If it happens, I'd like to think even the mainstream world will be too cagey to attach any meaning to a James Toney win over Ken Shamrock. The cynic in me however fully expects that somewhere, somehow at least one jerk will talk about it on his radio show, and will probably say something ridiculous about how MMA and boxing are now "1-1" against each other. It's almost enough to make a guy root for Ken Shamrock UFC Odds favorite , but to do that I'd have to make the effort to find out if and when this fight is really happening.
