On this subject, absolutely, but that is well established already.

 

Never said I read thousands of repoets, only about a dozen.  I have read articles that examine the consensus view among pertinent scientists, and there is an overwhelming agreement among those scientists that greenhouse gases fromhuman activity is causins an acceleration in the rate of global temperature rise, and that as these human generated gases continue to be releaded, at an accelerating rate, the rate of warming will also increase.

 

Now listen, carefully, I know it is hard for you to concentrate, but try.  The whole point is that human activity is ACCELERATING the rate of temperature increase above the NATURAL short term warming that began about 150 years ago. cycles.   The problem is, that if our activities cause too much variation in the natural cycle, we COULD have significant and profiund changes to weather patterns.  (note that few degree atmospheric temp increase that may occur will likely cause changes in ocean temps, ocean salinity, which could cause the massive change in weather patterns).

 

Regarding "how Canada melted", that was part of the  warming trend the earth has been in for the last 20,000 years or so, since the last glaciation (a relatively short term cooling trend, as opposed to longer term cooling trends lasting tens of millions of years, as opposed to short term temp cycles between glaciations, like we have been in the last several thousand years). Actually, we are in a period of relatively warm temps, it is usually cooler on the earth, we can expect anouther glaciation if history is a guide, but not for thousands of years.

 

Various theories exist to explain this.  In general. it is thought that dust from variable volcanic activity and/or meteorites cause cooling to the point that the earth enters an ice age.  When this activity recedes, and dust is reduced, the planet warms again and glaciers retreat.  Note that this is over tens of thousands (glaciations)  and millions of years (ice ages).  There is also work that shows the glaciations may be tied into the precession of the earths axis and variations of the earths orbit. 

 

Oh, generally speaking, trees are good.  Unless you listen to the renowned scientist Ronald reagan who thought that trees cause pollution.

So if the earth heated by 1 degree in 150 years, then how much was it supposed to heat up if it weren't for us greedy humans that want to enjoy better life, with cars, trains, and fuel for our homes?  So maybe the earth should have only heated up .5 degrees and now it heated 1 degree in 150 years?  We are in a relativly "warm" period historically speaking, but we should feel guilty because we contributed as much as 1 degree to the overall temperature in 150 years?

Key word is COULD...  If we don't use fossil fuels we will certainly have more difficult lives.  I am sure we can figure out a way to NOT use fossil fuels, but at this point in time they are the most cost effective.  Thats why we use them!

 

 

HOLD ON A SECOND.  Now I thought you just said the earth has been heating for the past 150 years ( due to man)... but now your saying that we are in a " warming trend", and have been for 20,000 years? 

 

Call me crazy, but 20,000 years of warming sounds like a long time.  Sounds like mother earth has been heating herself up for a long long time.  150 years looks like a drop in the bucket compared to 20,000 years.  Do you know where MAN, was 20,000 years ago?

 

 

You see that is funny.  You say that based on history, cooler temperatures are on their way, yet you complain about global warming.  I guess your predictions are those of the scientists you quote, or they are just based on "historical trends".  So would you say the scientists have a "consensus" that cooler temperatures are on their way"?

So you mean nobody really knows for SURE what is going on?   The earth could get hotter in the future ( like the previous 20,000 years), and the earth can cooler ( like even earlier).  If the earth heats and cools itself ( and has been doing this forever), then why are you so worried about 1 degree in 150 years?  Does that really seem like THAT much of a climate change in the grand scheme of things?   Maybe they need more funding for further research???

 

 

So should I really go seek higher ground because global warming and a great flood are going to occur, or could this be the case of the media trying to sell a story and push an agenda?  Remember, nobody is going to read a newspaper or watch the news if all is well... But " Your in danger... watch at 11" sure does get a lot of viewers.

The TV and Media was hyping up SUV's "safety".  There were tons of programs on TV, talking about how much safer you are driving one of those.  They were "cool, and safe, roomy and stylih" and a family car.

 

 

I haven't heard much about their safety, when most of the public OWNS an SUV.  Now if you drive an SUV, your a Greedy Capitalist Nazi who is melting the polar icecaps and heating the earth.

how can people be sure that these years have been the warmest ever...what kind of devices did they have for telling temperature back in the 1800's?  how about before that when the dinosaurs roamed the earth?

 

An interesting point.  According to the geologic record, over 95% of the earth's history was ice-free.  Statistically, we are still living in one of the coldest periods of this planet's existance.  And no, I am not the scientist that measured that.  I am just passing on what many scientists have concluded.
