It took me 2 years to get that back (slowly, surely, patiently). The way, I made my current roll was pure nuts looking back on it. When Floyd Mayweather signed to fight Ricky Hatton in Vegas Dec 8, 2007, I thought all my dreams had come through. When, I saw the opening price of -150, I knew that no bet I ever made would be better then that. All the Brits pouring their money on the most over rated fighter of this or any generation. I went and got a loan with a mate from the Bank. It was to buy and refubish a house is what we told them (which was true in the end). When, I eventually got the money I rang around bookmakers wondering what size a bet they would be willing to except. I couldn't find any for ages that would take such a large bet, so it looked like a lot of DIY house refurb for me, until I got in contact with Ladbrokes in the UK. It took 4-5 weeks for the bet to be placed (lots and lots of forms), but I still got the -150 price on Mayweather to win. By fight time people were finally clueing in and it went out to -200. Still, that was a fcuking steal!. I put 2 bets on the fight. 75% went on Mayweather to win @-150, the other 25% went on Mayweather to win by KO @ +350. I posted right here on Covers that is was the bet of the century in any sport.

Now, looking back on it this was beyond idiotic. If it losses well quite simply, I am ruined and ruined for my whole life. I was quite calm, though the whole way through the fight build up, 24/7 etc. I had been through my head a million times, Hatton can't beat this man (not on Hattons best day, not on Mayweathers worst). The night of the fight, I was a bag of nerves, sick sick nervous, just full of tension. Hatton looked so confident at the weigh in. Then the first round and Mayweather is staggered! What the fcuk. Are u kidding me. I run upstairs and puked my guts out. What the hell have I done here. British commentators pro Hatton have it even after 6. This was not in the script. What have I done. What if my parents find out, my sister, my girlfriend. Pure sickening disgusting feeling..If I could have taken the bet back there and then I would. Nothing worth going through this for.

Come round 8, I knew I had it. Floyd does what deep down I knew he would do and begins to outclass Hatton. Just a matter ff Floyd could make my day/year/life and secure the KO. He did round 10. Was it worth it? No. Even though I won, that was not worth it. I aged 5 years that night..

From there I have hit on average 8 out of 10 big bets, I have placed since that night. It means I have my 2 appartments, one in the Canaries where I live every winter. It's a tough job at times, especially when u lose a big one, but thankfully I have never been on a major downward streak in 8 years now. I make on average 65k (euro's) a year tax free (between the various small bets and the 1 to 2 big bets, I place each year). This year so far, I have more then that, but I did this time last year too, and took a big hit on Mallinaggi v Diaz last Christmas.

Do not do what I did! That was nuts. The best way in my opinion to make money in this business is patiently. Picking your spots investing slowly but surely. There is always 2 or 3 bets a year that need to be pounced on. There is a real skill in identifying them. When, I flagged Murray v Nadal at Wimbledon I was slaughtered on this very forum (see above). I am aware my self belief is not well liked, but it is very effective and it makes me as good as I am. If I lose that confidence, that swagger, it's like Samson losing his hair!

After, I cashed big on Nadal, I then put 2 big bets on Spain in the world cup from the semi final stage (https://www.covers.com/postingforum/post01/showmessage.aspx?spt=41&sub=100781189). Was I as confident in Spain as I was in Nadal!? No way! But sometimes when you gamble with profit its good to take shots when your on a role. I have built a good chunk of my role from riding a hotstreak. Runs are such a big part of gambling. When your running hot you can't miss, when your running cold, 2 late TD's and you miss your spreadbet by 1 point after capping the game correctly. If you can learn to limit your losses when your cold, that's just as good as making money when you are hot.

Patience, Self Discipline and trusting your judgement are my keys to success. Now other posters have come and said they don't agree with me and have explained other ways to make money gambling. Great! It's not for me to say who is right and wrong here. It should be a thread where we help each other best make money. I'm just telling you what I believe is the best way to make money gambling..

I have haters, you will see a few on them on this thread. I have stated I only want to help people make money. No touting (not even sure what that means). I heard of ticket touting. I don't need to charge people, that's not what this is all about. Two people PM'd me saying great article/post. Job done..

Sparty I am here to help. Simple as.

If people follow me they will make money in the longrun. I have no intention of charging (I mean come on!). They don't have to follow. I wrote the post to help. Please bash me on another thread and keep this thread constructive (no name calling etc etc).

I'll start giving my leans more in the boxing forum. As for picks, I'm ALL ABOUT THE PARLAYS. Almost every bet I make is a parlay big,small, shoot-for-the-moon etc. I have a shitload of parlays that don't end till October. It would be impossible to post all of my bets. I make alot of parlay bets and oftentimes hedge my parlays once they're on the last fight.

This past Saturday I had 7 various 14-bet-parlays for a total of 325 bucks to win about 10 grand. These parlays finished with Chad Dawson beating Pascal. I went ahead and put a 1 grand 2-bet "insurance parlay" of Arreola/Pascal that made me 3.1 grand. I could lie and say I made a profit of 3 grand but I also had Chad Dawson in a SHITLOAD of other parlays so I only made about 1.2 grand profit. In total I had about 1.6 grand worth of parlays on Dawson (I had alot of faith in the guy). I still stand by Dawson and have no doubt he would win a rematch. Also I really unloaded (straight bets and parlays) on the +22.5 prop for Pascal(the line was -250). If you read my posts you'll know I HIGHLY recommended this play since I figured Dawson was too much of a safety first fighter to KO Pascal. Dawson ended up losing because he was "TOO MUCH OF A SAFETY FIRST FIGHTER"

Constantly relying on parlays would probably spell disaster in any other sport, but as yall know there are less variables in a 1 on 1 sport and unlike MMA, in boxing, if you get knocked down you have 8 seconds to recover. I don't know shit about tennis but I wouldn't mind gambling on it(if I knew the sport of course). Another really cool thing about gambling on boxing is that the "clear favorites" are always priced so high. Boxing is not a mainstream sport and with my knowledge of parlays, math, and boxing I do some damage with small bets on underdogs and especially in my case - prop bets. Like I said I parlay almost everything.

One tip I'll give out is I like to have at least 1 or 2 bets in my parlays that are + odds. That way it multiplies really quick. There are about 3 other big parts of my strategy that I'd rather not share because then everyone is going to start doing it (There's a reason most sportbooks don't allow parlays on boxing). Apart from me being a boxing freak, I truly believe boxing is the easiest sport to cap if you know the sport. I personally come from a boxing family and watched all the big fights as a kid with my dad giving me pointers (he was grooming me to be a champ). I started actually boxing at 12 and had a total of 8 amatuer fights (not much I know). Iv'e lways been in and around the Houston boxingscene as 2 of my best friends are amatuer boxers and I've been back at the gym myself for the past year or so. What's crazy is my boxing IQ has increased since I've started gambling in 07. I wish I had that knowlege when I was actually boxing.

I'll admit I'm obsessed and nerdy about my shit, but if it's making me money...
