I guess I bring this point up ALSO because I was trying to get into a pro tennis player's head:
1. Do pro Tennis Players look at a tournament AS A WHOLE and say, "I could make the most money if I run in both Singles AND Doubles for the weekend?"
2. Are Pro tennis players ever JUST "filling in part of the bracket"?
3. Do Pro tennis players that play both Singles and Doubles EVER HAVE TO MAKE THE CHOICE OF SAYING, "I should play myself out of Doubles, because I think I have a ligitimate chance of getting to the Finals and I don't want to play 1-4 extra games, therefor hurting my chance at Singles by wearing myself out?"

My thoughts on #1:
First of all, you make 4 times as much money winning a 1st-round SINGLES match than winning a 1st-round DOUBLES match (per person).
Against it: I know this is a SMALL sample, but I looked back at the last two SMALL tournaments of 32 Singles and 16 teams in doubles.
They were the Aegon International and Campbell's Hall of Fame championship.
In Newport, Matthew Ebden and Ryan Harrison WON DOUBLES. Ebden did a fairly deep run in the Singles tournament also. He won his first two Singles games and lost to O. Rochus in the QF.
In the AEGON International, Andreas Seppi WON THE SINGLES tournament while ALSO going DEEP TO THE FINALS IN DOUBLES where he lost. His doubles partner Grigor Dimitrov also won his first 2 matches and the lost in the QFs to the runner-up of the tournament Janko Tipsarevic.
Seems like there were 1 or 2 players that were on fire for the weekend going DEEP in both Singles AND Doubles.
One other thing noted:
Of the 9 SEEDED players in the Singles brackets that played both Singles AND Doubles in these 2 tournaments, ONLY 1 player won their 1st-round Double matchup. They other 8 fell in their first matches in Doubles.
I'M GOING TO GUESS THAT SINCE I DID A SMALL SAMPLE OF 2 "SMALLER" TOURNAMENTS THAT THIS IS JUST COINCIDENCE, but has yet to be looked into further.
#2 I only bring up "fill-ins" because I ADMIT, I don't know everything about Tennis, but would like to for betting purposes. OBVIOUSLY there are players who drop out, there are players who fill in for them.
Are there "back-ups" that come to the tournament "JUST INCASE" somebody were to back out?
CAN ANYTHING BE SAID ABOUT THESE WILD-CARDS that the tournament puts in the brackets?
AND when I look at these brackets from ATP World, I see two abbreviations before names that I'm NOT FAMILIAR with:
LL which I believe is Lucky Loser and SE which I'm gonna take a stab-in-the-dark and say Special Entry?!?!?
Does it matter to know what these are so when you cap a tennis match you can WEIGH IT IN CORRECTLY?
#3 I would have to IMAGINE that Pro Tennis Players will come across this dilemna often if they are playing Singles AND Doubles.
Do I think it happens IMO....YES.
Me personally,...I can't rule it out. It's not going AS FAR to say they are "rigging" a match for BETTING PURPOSES, but playing tennis are these guys JOBS and if it means MAKING MONEY, ANYBODY HAS TO GO ABOUT IT IN A LOGICAL MATTER.
BUT they do have a partner that might not have an opportunity to go deep in the Singles tourney,..so that might weigh in here.

I BRING THESE QUESTIONS UP BECAUSE BOTH YOU AND I BET ON THESE MATCHES WHERE THESE OCCURENCES HAPPEN.
I try not to leave any view/angle unturned and tend to look at stuff that OTHER people may not.
I bring it up to make OTHERS aware of these ANGLES and I leave it to THEM to decide if it matters when it comes to THEM PUTTING MONEY ON ANY OF THESE MATCHES.
ALL THOUGHTS/INSIGHT/OPINIONS ARE WELCOME!!!!!!
