I beg to differ. Murray has an excellant chance to beat Federer, if either advances to the final. Murray was my pick going in and beyond an aweful match yesterday, he has been very solid. Yesterday was a wake up call for him if you ask me. Roddick has also played some very impressive tennis this tournament.
Differ away I am right. Murray right now does not have 1) The game or 2) temperment to win Wimbeldon. I think he will win a Grand Slam in future but I believe he has a better chance in Australia or The US Open then Wimbledon where he is under a lot less pressure.
1a) The big problem I see with Murray is that his tactics are too negative and too defensive. He waits for players to make mistakes, instead of being aggressive (which you need to be on grass) and taking control of points. I don't know how many times he had Wawrinka moved allover the court and in control of the point and instead of coming into the net and taking charge he allows Stan to get back into the point and win it..
1b) Murray is a very solid player but he doesnt have a BIG weapon like Federer or Nadal. He doesnt get anywhere near the amount of cheap points his opponents do and that all adds up over the length of a major
1c) His second serve is awful. Wawrinska had 12/13 break points! Fed will murder that second serve..
Unless he sorts out these glaring weaknesses he will never win Wimbledon.
2a) The pressure the guy is under is ridiculous. The British press are the worst in sport for putting crazy pressure on their teams and players. They don't win much so when a team or player does do well the press will do they best to put them under as much pressure as possible. That pressure has hindered so many people over the years. Idiots will they ever learn.
2b) Fed is the greatest player in history. He has just won his 14th and most important grand slam. There is a monkey off his back. The one man that drives him crazy is not even in the tournament. He has been there done that. Yes Murray beat him 6 of 8 times whatever but Federer won the 2 finals they played and destroyed him in the US Open final. How can anyone be confident in betting Murray against a man thats lost one match there since 2003...
If the final happens I see Fed in 4. He takes first 2 sets then Murray gives the crowd falso hope. I honestly think its 50/50 even if Murray gets to the final.
