Why don't more people bet straight up?

From what I see in the forum subsections, it seems people are always posting spread lines or o/u.

Straight-up just seems more predictable, safer, and less stressful. Obviously the money isn't as great, but if you make careful picks in the more predictable sports, then I don't see losses coming too often.

are you referring to high juice favorites?

Not too familiar with the terms. What qualifies as high juice favs?

Sometimes you have to lay $1000 (or more) to win $100...So one loss wipes out 10 wins.

Even when you pick lower juice favorites like -300, laying $300 to win $100, -300 is a team that is a 6 point favorite...And even tho' the team you're picking just has to win and not cover the 6 points, 6 point favorites lose straight up all the time.

 

I guess spread and o/u are more popular for NFL and other sports.

MLB and NBA is much more predictable imo and ML bets is where your money should go.
