What is the point of moving the line the same amount for both teams? how does it help them?
The entire point of a line is to keep the money even on both sides. If the bookies can do this they win money that is there goal . They change or move the line to adjust to that need.
When the line was +1/-1 if 1000 bets came in for -1 how would you get more bets on the +1 side? well if you moved the line to +3 a lot more people would consider taking the other team. Its just a way for bookies to get the wagers on both sides even.
