Who cares if they are real or not. It's all about the correlation with the line and line movements. The best way to use this information is to cross reference it with wagerline and other sites that post betting % by different methods.

I agree 100%. You can't take the consensus numbers exactly....especially wagerline numbers. I myself pick underdogs sometimes for fun on wagerline because there's no money involved. However...there are certain sites that are linked to online books and give you an average of like 6 books. Again...you can't take it literally..but it does give you a great indication of what a large group of gamblers are thinking. When you see percentages above 65%....that's a pretty good indicator that the public is leaning in a certain direction.
Like JSNOTS said above...its about watching the line movement and how it goes against these betting consensus. Who cares how accurate they are....it's about noticing reverse line movement. Again.....a 58% consensus is nothing to raise a red flag...however....you see a game like USC/CAL tonight where USC started off as a 1.5 dog and wound up giving 2 with something like 60%+ on Cal.....there's a red flag.
By the way....what a fucking cover that was!!!! Anybody see what happened? I went from a fortunate push to a win!

We all should have at least a feel as to where the public action is going, whether these numbers are real or fake. Consensus numbers shouldn't influence you much in your decision to lay some money down on a wager that you handicapped as well as you possibly could. Yes Vegas gives the public freebies all the time, and that is why the public loses more than they win.

I have been tracking the % and line movements on pregame for around 2 months now. When I started I found that if a certain matchup had a % of 65 or higher with the line moving the opposite way, that other side was gold +- 65% wins... (just NCAAB and NBA)
This last week has been terrible.... Seems like the books want to let the public win so they have enough money for the tournament..
I have not looked at sportsinsights #'s and % in comparison to pregame but I think I will start today.
Have any of you guys/gals tracked the numbers for the NHL, or MLB ???
