NCAA Basketball spreads...why aren't they released til the last minute?

The question explains it all. Are they worried about the lines being weak? Why would all the books wait til an hour before gametime (in lots of cases, seemingly) to release the numbers?

If anyone has any thoughts on the issue, it would be great to hear from you. Cheers guys!

Its very simple. Someone ( a key player) might get hurt, sick, arrested, etc. One player ( not playing) in basketball has a bigger impact than any other sport.

Interesting thought gut, but by that logic, they wouldn't release the spreads the previous day, which they do.

They don't release O/U til an hour before gametime, which baffles me, and that's where my question lies. Thoughts?
