I wil be using a consistency rating method for all games I am handicapping for the NBA. This is how I use it. Normaly I go back the last 10 games that a giventeam has played. As for now I go back to how many games each team has played.I look at how many times a team has covered in those last 10 games. Pushes count for a 1/2 cover. The more recent the game the more meaningful the momentum of the team.In the last game played a team can earn 10 points. In the second to last game they can earn 9 points. We do this all the way through until we get to the bottom. That game only earns 1 point. Thereare a total of 55 points. We add all wins + 1/2 credit to pushes.
Let us say in the last 10 games a team shows this
WIN 10 POINTS
WIN 9 POINTS
LOSE 0 POINTS
LOSE 0
WIN 6
LOSE 0
PUSH 1/2 WIN=2POINTS
WIN 3 POINTS
WIN 2POINTS
WIN 1
The total is 33 POINTS . That represents 60% of the total possible amount since 55 points is the most a team can get. The consistency rating is 60. We compare this with the other team it is playing. When one team's consistency rating is 25% or more under the others that is usually not a good thing, . Having said that, a consistency rating is a secondary factor, not a primary one. On its own it is vulnerable to primary factors but it adds or subtracts to the strength of a play. It works best when team's have 20% to 80% ratings. A really cold team often turns it around and really hot teams cool off. I will be using this in my charts for NBA games that officially starts for me today Nov 14. The season is 10% old and the character of teams has for the most part been revealed. I was about 16 units ahead for the first part of the season that I advised the public to observe. My first week was exceptionally hot. After that it cooled off. That cn happen until the character of eams is revealed. Yesterday was my first "investment"play. Chicago went off at +120 for me as the naive public drove Dallas from +1 to -2 1/2.
Sometime before 7:00 I will be posting plays.I will only do this for a certain period, perhaps a month. Enjoy the picks. If the past determines the future they will do well.
