I found that ESPN seems to have the best stats to load. I like USA todays stats but they must have them copy written. https://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/statistics

hey all, i have a couple of questions about handicapping and would love some input. lan-you mentioned OBP (and SLG) needed to be analyzed by the right/left of the opposing starter. it seems to me that home/away OBP (or OPS) are also very important. would you just average those different filters or filter both criteria at the same time. if this is the case, where can i find a site that i can do two filters at once? i guess i will leave it at this for now. thanks for any input from all.

Good question. I personally have never had anything but stellar results using the overall SLG and OBP of a player, keeping vs LHP and vs. RHP separate. Is it possible things might work even better by separating for road and home? Maybe, but I have had no issues and like you said, it's tough to find a site that filters both.

Sorry never mind. There are to many #'s to do it. I'd be just as good typing or cut and paste. A real BIG THANKS!!!
So you are giving up on importing data into excel from web sites? If so, I really suggest you reconsider this for you own convenience.
I understand it is human nature to not want to mess with setting up the framework for importing data, but once you set it up, you will be so glad it did. When I first started capping baseball, I used to spend 8 hours a day on it. Now it's down to 1-3 hours. It's made the biggest difference. Good luck.

no not at all I set it up already. I have the formulas for my capping on one sheet of excel and my web query in another sheet. I was wanting to transfer a cell from one sheet to the other automatic somehow but I don't think what I wanted to do would be any easer. I much appreciate your help and I will give this refresh stats in excel a shot tomorrow. Thanks

OPS on the road vs home is wildly different so it seems like it would be important to capping but i have not resolved how i would incorporate it. also, do you guys use general ERA, sagarin ERA or home/away ERA differences between starters? thanks for all the help. btw, the importing stats to excel has been good but finding sites that have the exact stats i want is the difficult part. again, thanks to all.

I take that back. I am now loading relievers from espn.com. From the home page click on MLB then click on teams then click on stats for whatever team then click on pitching then in the little drop down box to the right labeled (Splits) from here click on whichever one you need.

I'm sure there is a site out there that has it the way your looking for it. Just google baseball stats or what ever. It may be a lot of leg work but it should pay off.

Everyone should use XERA, but this will take some more time. ERA can be very skewed from bad defense and other variables. XERA weeds all of the crap out and can tell you whether a pitcher has been lucky or unlucky.
Also, about the web queries for pitchers, I personally have a web query for every single pitcher. For every individual game matchup, I put in the starting pitchers' names and do a vlookup from my web stats in another web sheet and "Bam!" all those pitchers stats pop up.
I know it might seem like a pain, but the more time you put in now for these shortcuts, the happer and quicker things will be later.

All of a sudden I'm now getting a invalid web query. Anyone know about this. I'm down to my last 3 pitching staffs. What the f*%k?
Make sure you clear the cache and cookies in Windows Explorer every time before you add web queries and/or refresh them. This will help a lot. Chances are, you will still get these errors, but some of them aren't anything.
I have to refresh my data three times at the beginning of the day to make sure all the queries are updated, but it's worth it. Good luck.
