I have a book written in 1979 by Jim Jasper that covers a formula which takes pitching statistics for the starting pitchers and bullpen to form ratings for the pitchers and then statistics for batters to form an offensive rating. Then using those ratings to form a moneyline and you play a game where your line and the bookmakers line differs by a certain degree. This is a way to find value in the moneylines.
However, one thing I notice where a lot of folks mess up is they come up with a rating system, then they start applying the rating system and they throw it out in the start of a season because it's not meeting their expectations. In my experience, you need to stick with it for a while. It takes some time for the teams to "Come into Form". Once the season comes into form then it is an opportune time to begin putting money down but only after the season comes into form.
