If France becomes 2nd, they will have to play against Spain (Croatia can not beat them)

    Right.

Im working out in my head the possibility of France knowing that Spain is in 2nd, and tanking their game against Sweden to avoid them.

I guess if I was France I would want the win and avoid playing Germany in first knockout game....Portugal or Denmark or Germany anyday.

It's too risky because if France loses and England loses, Ukraine wins the group and England can potentially come in second based on more goals scored.

Sorry, but you are wrong. The only way Italy doesn't advance is obvisouly if they lose (which they shouldnt) or if Croatia - Spain ties 2-2 or higher.

Spain can finish in 2nd if they tie 0-0 and Italy wins by 3 clear goals.

I cannot see a Spain - Croatia fix... therefor I like Italy to make the Quarters, and take care of a terrible England team.

I cannot see a Spain - Croatia fix... therefor I like Italy to make the Quarters, and take care of a terrible England team.

I thought Italy was severely overrated in 2010...and I was right. As a result, I felt like they were underrated for this tournament...but they are proving to be just as bad as they were in 2010. If England plays like they did today, they can simply outscore a very turnover prone Italian side. I have lost all faith in the Italians.

I think that's being a little harsh on Italy and a little too kind on England.

Italy arguably should have won both matches (they certainly impressed me against Spain). France should have beaten England (something like 65% possession). England's 2nd goal against Sweden has to go down as poor goalkeeping.

If Italy has to play England, I would certainly be backing the Italians.

I definitely agree that the Italians are turnover machines, but to compare this squad to 2010 is simpl absurd lol. That 2010 team had 0 talent. They were old and in shambles ( no buffon, pirlo, cassano, balo, ). This years squad has way more upside, they've just yet to figure it out. And I put most of the blame on Prandelli cuz he's an idiot.

I'm not saying Italy is a lock by any means, but they will make the Quarters, and in a knockout game, I like there chances just as much as anyones.

Oh don't get me wrong, England was lucky to escape with a point vs France. France dominated that game, but just couldn't get a second one across. England may have gotten a little lucky to end up with 3 goals today, but their offense did impress me. Their defense, on the other hand, not so much. They should've given up more to France and they did surrender 2 to Sweden. Italy hasn't been terrible defensively, their problem has mainly been the turnovers and then the isolated lapses such as Croatia's equalizer. I honestly wouldn't know what to make of a match between 2 teams prone to mistakes.

Not true at all. In fact Italy not advancing is a definite possibility. If Spain & Coatia tie other then 0-0, Italy will have to win by at least 3-0 to secure a position in the quarters. If Italy wins (almost definite) say 2-0 & Croatia/Spain tie 1-1, 2-2 ect..tiebreakers would be used in order:
1.Total points between the 3 teams (5 points each)
2.Goal differential between the 3 teams would be even (2-2)
3.Goals scored between the 3 teams would all be 1-1 ties (2 goals each)
4.Goal difference in all matches between the 3 teams (+2)
    5.Total goals scored in group (Spain 6, Croatia 5 & Italy 4)

Italy needs to win 3-0 to assure themselves a spot in the quarters although I do think Spain will beat Croatia, but a draw is very possible too.

If Croatia & Spain were to tie 0-0 then Italy need only win 2-0 to advance.

Sorry, I misread the 2-2 tie statement, but a 1-1 tie between Croatia & Spain still requires that Italy win 3-0 as well.

I wont apologize for winning with favorites.  You can keep losing with your dogs.  The key is picking out when to bet each.

And as far as real stats - favorites have won 8 out of 14 times.  Not one out of 30.  We use real numbers here pal - not made up statistics.

    Buzz off.
