Big Red. Actually, thank you as I went back and recalculated. Unfortunately, you went over the $10. If you look at the rules, you are purchasing the horse based on the purchase cost so you went to $11. |

Mickey first place with 9 points and won the tiebreaker with Luxor Cafe finishing 10th over Big Red who had 9 points but Sandman who finished 18th. 3rd place is a complete draw between Truckin and qBall who had 8 points and the exact same horses. Before I do the random draw, have either of you never won a prize?
I also have asked Myles to send a prizes owed from previous years to Vet and Hoody. Can all of you send me an email at djbrow@aol.com with your sizes and addresses please.
Congrats to all! |

No more PMs so I can’t look. I’m happy to help. What were you supposed to win?

Ok, I’ll check with Myles on the prize. There isn’t an order, per se. Just the horses you pick. If any scratch, your other horses remain but you can replace the scratched horse with the horse or horses that equal the amount. |

@hoody What were you supposed to receive and what did you actually receive? And what year?
Also, if a horse scratches before 6 P.M. Friday, you may replace him with whatever your dollar amounts allow (i.e. if Journalism scratches, you have $4 to place on new horses but the other picks remain). |

Vet: I don't have knowledge if you don't received a prize since they are sent by Covers. What year and was the prize you were supposed to receive? We don't have DM any longer so I need to know where to tell them to send. |

Its that time of year again. Welcome to the 13th Derby pool. Horses and amounts in the next post.
The rules are, each person has $10 to play. You will pick $10 worth of horses. You cannot go over $10 and you may only choose a horse once. Most points wins. Tiebreaker determination is the best finishing positions based on all the horses chosen. In case of exact horses by two or more participants, it will be a draw and a random draw will determine the winner. Points are 4 for the winning horse, 3 for second, 2 for third, and 1 for fourth. In case of scratch, you may choose another horse no later than 6 P.M. on Friday. In honor of our 13th year, Myles has put together an amazing prize package. The first place winner will get a swag pack, consisting of covers hoodie, hat, t-shirt and a $50 Amazon gift card. The second place will get a hat, hoodie, and t-shirt and 3rd place will get their choice of two of the three items of hat, hoodie, and t-shirt. Its Derby Fever!

“I'm sick all day because of this. Hope the mods will take this”
Not as sick as I am. As with all boxed posters, we have programmed your return on three conditions:
1) hit 80% on your plays tomorrow 2) write a one page summary of your favorite thread in Archives and why 3) guess the third |

There are a lot of myths of foreign aid. The first is that cutting foreign aid would lead to a balanced budget or more money for schools, etc. Foreign aid accounts for about 1.3% of the U.S. Budget (it was about 1% before the Russian/Ukraine war).https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/countries-that-receive-the-most-foreign-aid-from-the-u-s#:~:text=In%20reality%2C%20foreign%20assistance%20typically,globally%20from%202012%20through%202022.
Foreign aid is also a plus sum proposition because much of the aid is equipment and strategic, thus the aid perpetuates military and like agencies' employment. https://www.usglc.org/media/2017/04/USGLC-Foreign-Assistance-Economic-Prosperity.pdf U.S. aid also creates instability in the countries who are natural adversaries to the recipient. Take the USSR for example...during the Cold War era, President Reagan used the Haig Doctrine to create internal instability in the USSR the largest reason for the initial fall of the USSR. Since the Russian/Ukraine war and the US aid, the Russian inflation rate is 7.7%, the highest in the region with the exception of Turkey.https://www.statista.com/statistics/276323/monthly-inflation-rate-in-russia/ The Iranian inflation rate was at 44% before the recent crisis. https://www.focus-economics.com/country-indicator/iran/inflation/#:~:text=Consumer%20price%20inflation%20in%20Iran,2022%20average%20figure%20was%2041.9%25. We can expect that as the Government contributes to more and more defense, the rate will increase to over 50%, a key number as over half the population will not be able to afford basic services/necessities. Perhaps Obama and Biden's biggest failings (although Trump didn't do much either) has been the failure to appropriately target sanctions related to Iran. The key is always to keep the Government financially weak but the people strong enough to create the internal turmoil (see Syria, Egypt, Libya).
